Cloutier’s Canada Corner
Eleider Alvarez Is Furious
By Daniel Cloutier
MONTRÉAL — The Montrealer Colombian Eleider Alvarez is
furious. Alvarez (23-0-0) is supposed to fight the
Montrealer southpaw Adonis Stevenson (29-1-0), the WBC light
heavyweight champion of the world, January 27th at the
Videotron Centre in Québec City, but Alvarez thinks that
Stevenson will pull out of this bout to face the African
Swedish Badou Jack (22-1-2) in an unification (WBC-WBA)
titles bout.
For Alvarez, this situation is not logical at all.
“Recently, the WBC ordered to Stevenson to face me,
considering I am his mandatory challenger for almost two
years now,” said Alvarez. “But my advisors are believing
more and more that Stevenson will pull out of our match up,
scheduled for January 27th at the Videotron Centre, to face
Badou Jack in an unification titles bout. And it seems that
the WBC is not reacting at all in this situation. Why? I am
so furious. If the WBC ordered to Stevenson to face me a
couple of months ago, this motion should be respected… yes
or no? Anyway, if Stevenson pulls out of our match up, I
will certainly contest his decision… in hoping that the WBC
will finally support me in this situation. I don’t think
there is another mandatory challenger on the international
boxing scene that deserves more than me to be involved in a
world championship fight.”
