Artur Beterbiev Wants To Break
His Contract With The Gym Group
By Daniel Cloutier
MONTRÉAL - A bailiff from the court served papers to the
promoter of the GYM Group in Montréal, Yvon Michel,
indicating that the Montrealer Russian Artur Beterbiev wants
to break his contract with Michel’s organization. A few
hours after the request for declaratory judgment was filed
in court by the boxer Artur Beterbiev to obtain the
termination of his contract, Group Yvon Michel (GYM)
indicated they will oppose this decision. “We are extremely
disappointed by this letter, and we hope to be able to find
a solution to keep Artur in our organization”, said Yvon
Michel. “Artur is certainly one of the best light
heavyweights in the world.”
Michel who is the defacto promoter for all things related to
The PBC in Canada "refutes and intends to vigorously
challenge the arguments for the termination of the contract
and has already delivered the relevant documents between the
hands of lawyers ".
Beterbiev did not specify the reasons of this action.
Beterbiev has only 11 pro bouts (11-0-0), but he is ranked
second contender by the IBF, third by the WBO and the WBA,
and sixth by the WBC.
He is the only boxer at 175 pounds to be ranked in the Top
five of the international boxing ratings with only 11 bouts
of experience.
Yvon Michel will meet Beterbiev’s lawyer in the days to
come. He admitted, however, that Beterbiev had already
informed him of his intention, first verbally and then
through his lawyer. GYM said these comments "will be the
only ones to be published until there are other developments
on the subject".
Beterviev will eventually fight the German Enrico Koelling
(23-1-0) in an IBF elimination bout.
