Canelo vs. Golovkin Off-TV

From T-Mobile Las Vegas
By William Trillo
Super lightweight Vergil Ortiz (7-0, 7 KO’s) didn’t buy into
the serious amount of smack that Cesar Valenzuela (7-2, 2
KO’s) was running at the weigh-in. Keeping his undefeated
record intact Ortiz not only remains undefeated but keeps
his KO ratio at a stellar 100%. Two vicious body shots put
Valenzuela down in round two with the ref waving it off at
1:22 of round 2.
“I just do what my coaches tell me to do,” said Ortiz. “They
knew how this fight was going to end, and kept reminding me
to go towards the body. I’m super happy to get the win, and
this is just another fight on the way.”
Welterweight Serhii Bohachuk (5-0,5 KO’s) defeated Joan
Valenzuela (5-9-1. 5 KO’s) in the second round of a bout
that Valenzuela did not train for at all. Bohachuk targeted
the flabby gut of Valenzulea dropping him in the second
round and then having the ref stop the bout as the hapless
foe labored in vain in the final moments. Official time of
stoppage was 1:58 of the second round.
Bohachuk noted after the fight, “He was a good opponent, I’m
happy I won. It was a tough fight, but I kept working at it
and came out on top.” Truth be told Valenzuela was an out of
shape stiff who should have his purse pulled for his
disgraceful showing.
In the opening bout of the day flyweight Marlen Esparza
(3-0) stayed the course with her undefeated record defeating
Tania Cosme (5-7-1, 4 KO’s) with a unanimous decision that
read 60-54 across the board.
On the fight Esparza said, “Even though my opponent, on
paper, looked like she had more ring experience, I’ve been
in the ring way more than she had. Because I had 3 minute
rounds, I was able to think a lot more in the ring and was
even told by my trainer I had to slow down. I couldn’t
research much about my opponent, but we knew she was going
to be throwing her right often. I’m satisfied with my
performance because this was my first 6-round fight.”
