LAS VEGAS —— Saul Canelo Alvarez promised to the Mexican population to give a bad treatment and a boxing lesson to his countryman Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., and it’s exactly what he did Saturday evening in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Alvarez won the main event of this Cinco De Mayo boxing show by unanimous decision. The three judges scored the bout 120-108 in favour of Alvarez in one of the best performances of his career.

Alvarez was hoping to win by KO or TKO, but he can be very happy of his performance: he scored a shutout: 12 rounds to nothing. He tortured Chavez during the 45 minutes of action of the bout.

Chavez (50-3-1) was never in the game. In every round, he just tried to survive again a very mean and powerful opponent.

Alvarez (49-1-1) connected 228 punches, against 71 pour Chavez.

In the first round, Alvarez connected more power shots than Chavez, who was fighting carefully.

Alvarez was extremely intense in the second round. He touched Chavez to the head and the body with more than 30 powerful shots.

In the third round, like in the second, Alvarez gave a very hard time to Chavez. Again, he placed so many power shots.

Chavez got a very painful fourth round. Alvarez never stopped to attack him and hurt him with destructive punches to the head and the body.

In the fifth and sixth rounds, Alvarez maintained his bad treatment against a very hesitant opponent.

In the seventh round, Chavez got his best moments offensively, but Alvarez replied with several painful and heavy punches.

Alvarez was again the aggressor in the eight, nine and 10th rounds, and he controlled clearly the action, in throwing a lot of painful punches.

“Alvarez beat me, I got to admit it, he is a strong boxer and a good fighter,” said Chavez. “I was hoping to take advantage of him in the ropes, but I did not hit him with enough power. Alvarez was deserving the win, no doubt about it.”

“I showed that I am not only a puncher, like you saw it, i can move and fight,” said Alvarez. “I went many times in the ropes to force him to open the machine, but he never did. I dominated the fight from the beginning to the end.”

When the announcer asked him what will be his next opponent, Alvarez said: “Gennady Golovkin. I am ready to face him in September.”

WBC, WBA and IBF middleweight champion of the world, Golovkin went in the ring at the end of the bout and said: “I really hope that this fight with Alvarez will become reality. I wish him good luck…”

Alvarez replied: “Good luck? Luck is for the mediocre fighters…”
