Featherweight Joet Gonzalez (17-0, 9 KO’s) put a beating on
Deivi Julio Bassa (19-3, 11 KO’s)and eventually dropped his
prey at the beginning of round 6. Julio got to his feet but
Joet jumped all over him forcing the ref to stop the bout
before the round came to an end.
“It feels really good to get the fifth round stoppage. My
opponent really knew how to box, he was on the Colombian
National team so that meant we had to come prepared for
battle. I’m ready to fight again real soon – hopefully by
October you’ll see me again.”
Super bantamweight Emilio Sanchez (15-0, 10 KO’s) KO’d Danny
Flores (15-10-1, 8 KO’s) in the fifth round of a pretty
chippy battle. Both man landed telling shots but in the
fifth round after a barrage of punches the referee had seen
enough and stopped the fisticuffs at the 33 second mark.
“I feel satisfied with my win tonight. I was really working
on closing the gap and I want to work on my technique and
style and be able to be distinct among all the fighters in
my pretty stacked division.”
Super lightweight Genaro Gamez (6-0, 4 KO’s) took a
pedestrian decision over Eduardo Rafael Reyes (8-11, 6 KO’s)
in a fight that was little on action and big on yawns. When
the highlight of the fight is a low blow you know it’s a
stinker.
“I wanted to give my fans a good show, and he was able to
soak up a lot of my punches. It’s been a tough couple of
weeks, so this win is really sweet. I recognize that this
wasn’t my best performance – I am not at my desired weight
and I’m still learning as a fighter, but my dream is to
fight top names and this was a step towards it.”
Welterweight Alexis Rocha (9-0, 5 KO’s) wasted no time in
disposing of Esau Herrera (18-10-1, 8 KO’s). With one good
left hand Rocha put Herrera on his duff to stay at the 2:59
mark of round one.
“I wanted to win, and I wanted it to look easy and
intelligent. I feel like I was able to do that with this
knockout win. I came in wanting to work the body, and I was
able to figure him out quickly.”
Featherweight Tenochtitlan Nava (7-0, 1 KO) took a close
decision win over a game Angel Enrique Aguilar Jimenez
(8-14, 1 KO). Judges’ scorecards for the battle all were in
agreement with 39-37 tallies across the board.
“I feel great – I made it out of the ring without any
significant damage to my body. I tried to close the gap
between me and my opponent, and focused on landing my jab
throughout the fight. One of the next steps to becoming a
world champion is going up to six rounds – I feel like I am
ready.”
Super lightweight Rolando Padilla (0-3)remains winless as he
was stopped by Ruben Rodriguez who was making his pro debut.
The fight was stopped in second round.
“I’m glad that I had my debut win be a knockout. Considering
that I was really nervous, I’m satisfied with my
performance. I got to start my professional career on a
Miguel Cotto undercard, and that is really crazy to me, and
is a great way for me make my way up in boxing.”
Super bantamweight Javier Padilla (3-0-1,3 KO’s) Ricardo
Arias (1-1-1) fought to a humdrum draw over four rounds.
Javier Padilla quipped, “I’m not very happy with the way the
judges scored the fight, but I know that this is a learning
experience. I should have used my reach a lot more, however,
I just like to fight from the inside. He was tough, and kept
smothering my punches. I’m ready to get back into the ring.”
Ricardo Arias said, “I wasn’t the favorite, so that’s why we
got the draw. I was robbed.”
Minimum weight Janel Rivera (16-2-3, 10 KO’s) made quick
work of Marco A. Sanchez (12-6-3, 7 KO’s) stopping him at
the 1:59 mark of round 1.
“I am extremely happy to be here in Los Angeles – this is
the first time I have ever fought here, and it’s been a
complete dream come true. In winning this fight, it proves
to me that all the sacrifice and training I have put in has
given me the desired results we came here for.”
