MONTRÉAL - The promoter of The Eye Of The Tiger Management
Group, the Montrealer businessman Camille Estephan,
confirmed the names of the fighters involved in the
preliminaries bouts of the boxing show he will present in
partnership with the promoter of Golden Boy Promotions in
Los Angeles, the former world champion Oscar De La Hoya,
December 16th at Place Laval (Montréal northern suburb).
As confirmed recently, the two main fights of this HBO
boxing show will involved the Montrealer David Lemieux, the
British Billy Joe Saunders, the Irish Gary O’Sullivan and
the American Antoine Douglas.
Lemieux (38-3-0) will face Saunders (23-0-0) in a WBO
middleweight championship of the world, and O’Sullivan
(26-2-0) will fight Douglas (22-1-1) for the WBO
middleweight InterContinental title. WBC 160 pounds FecarBox
champion and NABA North American champion, Douglas is from
Burke, Virginia.
Just before the fights Lemieux-Saunders and
O’Sullivan-Douglas, the Montrealer super lightweight Yves
Ulysse Jr. (14-1-0) will be opposed to the New Yorker Cletus
Seldin (21-0-0). For Ulysse, it will certainly be the
biggest challenge of his pro boxing career.
The three last bouts of the evening will be televised by
HBO.
Custio Clayton (12-0-0), a fighter from Halifax, Nova
Scotia, who left the GYM Group to join The Eye Of The Tiger
Management group last month, will dispute a WBO welterweight
international championship. Clayton, who is living in
Montréal since 2014, will be opposed to the veteran Carlos
Molina (28-8-2), from Chicago.
The Californian Ryan Garcia (12-0-0) will meet the Mexican
Noe Martinez Raygoza (23-9-2) in a NABF Junior North
American championship in the super featherweight division.
“It will be a historic boxing show on the Canadian
territory, no doubt about it,” said Estephan Tuesday
afternoon in a press conference held at the 40 West
Restaurant in the West Island of Montréal. “I cannot
remember a local boxing show of this amplitude. We will
offer to the crowd four championships bouts, including a
world championship fight between Lemieux and Saunders. I am
sure that the boxing fans who will assist to this event,
will never forget this historic moment. All the fights
should generate great action.”
A total of 12 bouts will be presented December 16th.
The Montrealers Batyr Jukembayev, Steven Butler, Mathieu
Germain, Vincent Thibeault and Kim Clavel, Simon Kean, from
Trois-Rivières, Québec, and Nicola Adams, from England, will
take part to the preliminaries bouts.
Jukembayev (10-0-0), a super lightweight, will be opposed to
Wilberth Lopez (20-8-0), from Tucson, Arizona, Butler
(20-1-1), a super welterweight, will meet the Texan Lanardo
Tyner (32-11-2), Germain (11-0-0), a super lightweight, will
challenge the Mexican Juan Garcia Mendez (19-3-2), Thibeault
(1-0-0), a super middleweight, will fight the Italian
Francesco Castellano (4-2-1), Clavel, a female flyweight who
will make her pro debut, will face the Mexican Yoseline
Martinez (3-2-0), Kean (11-0-0), a heavyweight, will fight
the Brazilian Raphael Zumbano Love (39-16-1), and Adams
(2-0-0), a flyweight, should know in the next days the name
of his opponent.
Considering the fact that this boxing show will involved 12
bouts, the event will start at 5.00 P.M., Eastern Time.
