Cloutier’s Canada Corner
Pascal Says Boxing
Really Is Over For Him
By Daniel Cloutier
MONTRÉAL -A few hours after his win by TKO against the
Egyptian Ahmed Elbiali in Miami, the Montrealer Jean Pascal
said the boxing is really over for him. Pascal, who stopped
Elbiali (16-1-0) in the sixth round, became the first boxer
to inflict a defeat to his opponent.
“I said before this bout with Elbiali it was my last
presence in the ring, and it’s the case,” said Pascal after
the fight. “I am proud of my career, but it’s really over
for me. It’s the right moment for me to start a new career.”
Former WBC light heavyweight champion of the world, Pascal
(32-5-1) is 35 years old. And he compiled a so and so record
of 3-3 at his last six bouts, losing twice by TKO against
the Russian Sergey Kovalev (31-2-1), the actual WBO light
heavyweight champion of the world.
People in the boxing circle believe that Pascal will change
his mind if he receives a solid offer to fight the new
acquisition of the GYM Group, Steve Bossé, a former ultimate
fighter who has decided to start a career in pro boxing.
Last week, Bossé said he was hoping to begin his pro boxing
career in fighting a big name like Jean Pascal.
In the next days, the GYM Group will certainly try to know
if Pascal has really decided or not to stop to fight.
