Cloutier’s Canada Corner
Pascal Wins By TKO
By Daniel Cloutier
MONTRÉAL - The former WBC light heavyweight champion of the
world, the Montrealer Jean Pascal, could give an extension
to his boxing career. Saturday evening in the ring of
Hialeah Racing Track Casino in Miami, Pascal (32-5-1) beat
the Egyptian Ahmed Elbiali (16-1-0) by TKO in the sixth
round. Pascal became the first fighter to beat Elbiali in
pro boxing.
A fighter of 35 years old, Pascal may have his last fight
next spring in Montréal or Québec City.
Pascal surprised his rival.
The first round was close. Each fighter got his good moments
offensively.
The second round was close for the two first minutes, but in
the last minute, Pascal attacked furiously his opponent.
In the third and fourth rounds, each fighter got his
efficient moments offensively.
In the fifth round, Pascal attacked intensively and gave a
very hard time to his opponent.
In the sixth round, Pascal maintained his intense attacks,
he hurt seriously his opponent, and the referee intervened
to stop the bout.
Elbiali was clearly in trouble in this sixth round.
“I knew that my experience would make the difference in the
result of this fight,” said Pascal after the bout. “I hurt
my opponent at the right moments in each round. In the
sixth, I saw that Elbiali was seriously in trouble, I opened
the machine and the referee took the right decision in
stopping the bout.”
Elbiali’s team agreed with the referee’s decision.
Pascal could face the new acquisition of the GYM Group,
Steven Bossé, in April. Last week, Bossé, a fighter of 36
years old, left the ultimate fighting to start a pro boxing
career. He signed a contract with the GYM Group. He said
that he wanted to face Pascal at his first pro bout. Pascal
mentioned last week that this fight with Elbiali could be
the last one of his pro boxing career, but this win could
push him to extend his career for few weeks or few months.
