Cletus Seldin: "I'm A Smiling Man,
But In The Ring, I'm A Real Animal"

By Daniel Cloutier

MONTRÉAL — The New Yorker Cletus Seldin is undefeated in pro boxing, and he said he cannot afford a loss Saturday evening in the ring of the Bell Place in Laval, a northern suburb of Montréal. Seldin (21-0-0) will fight the Montrealer super lightweight Yves Ulysse Jr. (14-1-0) in the first fight televised by HBO, before the presentation of the WBO middleweight championship of the world opposing the Montrealer David Lemieux (38-3-0) to the British Billy Joe Saunders (25-0-0) and the WBO middleweight InterContinental championship opposing the Irish Gary O’Sullivan (26-2-0) and the American Antoine Douglas (22-1-1).

“I am closer than ever to a participation to a world championship, and I will certainly not waist this great opportunity,” said Seldin. “I am undefeated and I got to stay undefeated to keep alive my chance to fight eventually in a world championship bout. And I hope to get this opportunity before the end of 2018. Like you can see it, I am a smiling person, but in the ring, I become a ferocious animal. I always try to destroy my opponent, like a starving lion. Ulysse is a good fighter technically, but I know I have the weapons necessaries to hurt him and destroy him. I am perfectly prepared for this challenge, and believe me, I won’t disappointed my fans. I am very impatient to be in the ring and hear the first bell. At that moment, you will see how much I become ferocious in action.”

Ulysse was smiling in hearing the Seldin’s comments. “Its a crucial bout for Seldin? For me too! Then, a win is a must for me like for him,” said the Montrealer. “I got also a great preparation, and I am ready for this challenge. My fans will certainly be impressed by my performance. Seldin is very aggressive fighter, I know it, but I know exactly what to do to surprise him. I know what can I expect from him, because I saw him in action on videos. He is a tough fighter, but he will certainly not intimidate me. And more a challenge is big, more I am performing. After this fight… a fight that I gonna win, my name should appear in the international ratings. Like Seldin, my objective is to take part to world championship bouts in 2018. No doubt that I have now the maturity to go to the top.”

The final press conference of this boxing show presented by The Eye Of Tiger Management Group, in partnership with Golden Boy Promotions, will he hold Thursday afternoon at the Sheraton Hotel in Laval.

Camille Estephan, the big boss of The Eye Of The Tiger Management Group, could confirm in the next hours that this boxing show is sold out. For Estephan, it’s a historic event, the most important local boxing show since several decades.
