MONTRÉAL - The New Yorker super lightweight Cletus Seldin said two days ago: “I am smiling man out of the ring, but in the ring, I am a ferocious animal. I will destroy Ulysse…”

Wrong! The Montrealer Yves Ulysse Jr. (15-1-0) provoked three knockdowns, one in the first round, one in the second and the last one in the third, and he became the first fighter to beat Seldin (21-1-0) Saturday evening in the ring of the Bell Place in Laval.

Ulysse, who was moving constantly from right to left in the ring, waiting the good moment to surprise his opponent with a power punch, won the bout by unanimous decision in 10 rounds.

The three judges of the bout got the same score: 99-88 in favour of the Montrealer.

“I mentioned few days ago that I would use my speed and mobility to confuse Seldin, and the strategy worked,” said Ulysse. “And you saw it, I connected the most important power shots of the bout. It’s certainly not by accident that Seldin went three times on the floor. Now, I want to move up in the «Top 10» of the international ratings, and get eventually a shot for a world title.”

The Montrealer Custio Clayton (13-0-0) won the WBO welterweight international title with a victory by unanimous decision in 10 rounds over the Argentinian Cristian Raphael Coria (27-6-2).

Several rounds were pretty close, but Clayton was connecting more power shots than the opponent in most of the rounds.

Clayton gave a very hard time to his opponent in the eight round with his heavy hooks to the head and the body.

And the Montrealer provoked a knockdown in the nine round with three consecutive solid body punches, and he sent again Coria on the floor in last round with an intense attack with both hands.

“More the fight was progressing, more I was dominating Coria,” said Clayton.” I have been patient, and I opened the machine at the right time. I hurt him several times in the last round. What next? We will see, but I want reach the «Top 10» of the international ratings as soon as possible.”

Clayton is actually ranked 15th contender by the WBO in the 147 pounds division.
The heavyweight Simon Kean, a fighter from Trois-Rivières, Québec. improved his pro record to 13-0-0, in beating Mike Sheppard, from Virginia State, by TKO in the second round.

Kean provoked a knockdown in the first round with a solid power shot to the head. At the beginning of the second round, Sheppard went on the floor for the second time, and the referee decided at that moment to stop the bout.

“I followed perfectly my fight’s plan, said Kean. My power shots hurt him, even my jabs. I am ready for bigger opponents.”

The Californian super featherweight Ryan Garcia scored his 13 win in pro boxing (13-0-0), in beating the Mexican Noe Martinez (10-10-2) by TKO in the eighth and last round.

Martinez, a southpaw, was aggressive but Garcia was a lot of better than him technically. In the third round, Martinez was suffering terribly. Garcia was attacking constantly in that round. Martinez was fighting energetically in the following rounds, but his opponent was dominating the action round after round.

In the last round, Garcia sent Martinez on the floor with an intense attack in the ropes. One minute later, Garcia hurt seriously his rival, and the referee intervened to stop the bout.

The WBC Continental Americas champion, the Montrealer super welterweight Steven Butler, increased his pro record to 21-1-1, with a victory by TKO against the Texan Lanardo Tyner (32-1-2-2).

Butler sent Tyner on the floor in the second round, with a solid uppercut on the chin. After the knockdown, Tyner was almost unable to stay on his legs. The referee stopped the fight right away.
For Tyner, it was his first defeat by KO or TKO.

“In the second round, my trainer, Jean-François Bergeron, screamed… Steven, use your uppercut. I did it, and I won the fight with this shot. Tyner was aggressive, but I was patient, I connected my punches at the right moment, et look the result. I really think that I will maintain my progression in 2018.”

The Montrealer super lightweight Mathieu Germain stayed undefeated (12-0-0) in scoring one of the most important win of his pro boxing career. He beat the Mexican Juan Garcia Mendez (19-4-2) by unanimous decision in eight rounds.

“Its certainly the most important win of my pro boxing career,” said Germain. “I faced several good fighters, but Mendez was the best so far. I dominated all the rounds in connecting a lot a body shots and head shots. But I got to continue to improve my style to be able to win against big names on the international boxing scene.”

The Montrealer Batyr Jukembayev, a super welterweight coming from Kazakstan, obtained his 11th win in pro boxing (11-0-0), in beating the Texan Wilberth Lopez (20-9-0) by unanimous decision in eight rounds.

Jukembayev connected over 100 power shots in this fight, but Lopez, a very courageous boxer, found the way to resist to this bad treatment.

The Montrealer super middleweight Vincent Thibault, a southpaw, scored his second win in pro boxing (2-0-0), an unanimous decision in four rounds against the Mexican Adrian Campos (2-5-2).

In the first female fight of the evening, the former Olympic champion, the British Nicola Adams, improved her record to 3-0-0 with a victory by TKO in the third round against Soledad Macedo (13-14-1), from Uruguay.

Adams dominated the bout from the beginning to the end.

In the second female bout on the event, the Montrealer Kim Clavel, five times Canadian champion in the flyweight division, made successful pro debut in beating the Mexican Yoseline Martinez José (3-3-0) by unanimous decision in four rounds.
