Cloutier’s Canada Corner
Germain vs. Claggett Jan. 26 At The Montréal Casino
By Daniel Cloutier
MONTRÉAL — The promoter of The Eye Of The Tiger Management
Group, the Montrealer businessman Camille Estephan,
confirmed that he will present his next boxing show January
26th at the Montréal Casino.
In the main event, the Montrealer super lightweight Mathieu
Germain, who is undefeated in 16 pro bouts (16-0-0), will
proceed to the defence of his IBF international North
American championship, against Steve Clagett (27-5-1), from
Calgary, Alberta.
In 2017 in Montréal, Claggett became the first fighter to
beat the Montrealer Yves Ulysse Jr. (17-1-0), who scored his
17th win in pro boxing last Saturday at Madison Square
Garden in New York, in beating the Californian Maximalliano
Becerra (16-3-2) by unanimous decision in eight rounds.
“Germain is good technically, he is pretty fast, but I am
positive I will become the first boxer to beat him,” said
Claggett. “And I really like my chances to win this fight by
KO or TKO.”
Germain replied: “If Claggett believes seriously he will
beat me, he will have a huge surprise January 26th. I am
determinate to serve him a boxing lesson.”
Before the main event, the Montrealer Russian Sadriddin
Akhmedov (6-0-0) will dispute a Junior super welterweight
WBC championship against an opponent to be determined.
The others fighters in action on this boxing show will be
the Montrealer Russian heavyweight Arslanbek Makhmudov
(5-0-0), the middleweight Clovis Drolet (8-0-0), from Québec
City, the Montrealer super middleweight Vincent Thibault
(7-0-0), the welterweight Raphael Courchesne (4-0-0), from
Saint-Hyacinthe, Québec, the super featherweight François
Pratte (8-0-0), from Trois-Rivières, Québec, the super
featherweight Kaemy Cloutier (1-0-0), also from
Trois-Rivières, the light heavyweight Lexon Mathieu, from
Québec City, who will make his pro debut, and the female Kim
Clavel (5-0-0), a flyweight from Montréal.
“We will open our 2019 year with a great boxing show,” said
Camille Estephan Tuesday afternoon in a press conference
held at the Bell Centre in Montréal. “I am positive that the
main event will be an intense and spectacular bout, and all
the others fighters on the show are great prospects who will
become more and more popular in the years to come. I am sure
that the boxing fans who will assist to this event will
appreciate the action from the beginning to the end of the
evening.”
