Camille Estephan: "We Will Have Great Action From Beginning To End Of Our Boxing Show"

By Daniel Cloutier

MONTRÉAL - The promoter Camille Estephan, from The Eye Of The Tiger Management Group in Montréal, is clearly excited to present his boxing show Saturday evening at Bell Centre in Montréal.

It will be the first time in two years that a boxing show is presented at Bell Centre, the home of the Montréal Canadiens in the NHL.

“We will have great action from the beginning to the end of this boxing show,” said Estephan Wednesday in a press conference held at the Montréal Casino. Monday, “we confirmed the three main fights of the evening, and today, we will revealed the identity of the fighters involve in the preliminaries bouts.”

Monday, Estephan confirmed that the main event (10 rounds) will oppose the former IBF middleweight (160 pounds) champion of the world, the Montrealer David Lemieux (40-4-0), to the Ukrainian Max Bursak (35-5-2).

Lemieux, who is ranked third contender by the WBC, will dispute his first fight in the super middleweight (168 pounds) division.

And Estephan confirmed Monday that the heavyweights Arslanbek Makhmudov and Simon Kean will take part to the two semi-finals of this boxing show.

A Montrealer Russian of 6’6’’, Makhmudov (9-0-0) will face Samuel Peter (38-8-0), from Las Vegas, in a NABF North American championship, and Kean, a fighter from Trois-Rivières, Québec, will fight Siarhei Liakovitch (27-7-0), from Scottsdale, Arizona, in a WBC International Silver championship.

The fighters involve in the preliminaries fights will be: the Montrealer Russian super middleweight Sadriddin Akhmedov (10-0-0), the Montrealer female flyweight (108 pounds) Kim Clavel (10-0-0), the Montrealer super lightweight (140 pounds) Mathieu Germain (17-1-1), the super middleweight Lexon Mathieu (7-0-0), from Québec City, and the Montrealer featherweight (126 pounds) female Martine Vallières.

Akhmedov will fight the Argentinian Jose Antonio Villalobos (12-5-2), Clavel will face the Mexican Esmeralda Gaona Sagahon (6-3-0) in a NABF flyweight North American championship, Germain will challenge the Mexican Gilberto Meza (11-8-1), Mathieu will face the Mexican Rolando Paredes (16-8-2) in a NABF North American championship, and Vallières will make her pro debut in fighting the Czech Tereza Dvorakova (0-2-0).

Two reserve fights should involved the super welterweight (154 pounds) Raphael Courchesne (8-0-0), from Saint-Hyacinthe, Québec, and the Montrealer super featherweight (130 pounds) Avery Martin-Duval (3-0-0).

Courchesne could fight Melvin Wassing (7-4-4), from the Netherlands, and Martin-Duval could face the Mexican Raul Corono (2-2-0).

“I am extremely proud to use the fighters involved in our preliminary fights,” said Estephan Wednesday. “Akhmedov is closer than ever to be ranked in the world, Clavel is ranked 11th in the world and she will certainly dispute a world championship bout next year, Germain is progressing superbly, Mathieu is a very promising prospect, and our fighters involve in the reserve fights, Courchesne and Martin Duval, are also good prospects who will dispute more and more important bouts.”

This boxing will start at 7.00 PM, Eastern time, Saturday.
