Rivas: "I Have The Potential To Become
WBC Bridgerweight Champion Of The World"

MONTRÉAL - The Montrealer Colombian Oscar Rivas is extremely
confident to win this WBC bridgerweight (224 pounds) world
championship presented Friday evening at he Montréal Olympia
Theater. Rivas (27-1-0) will face the Canadian Ryan Rozicki
(13-0-0) from Sydney, Nova Scotia.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to improve my boxing
career,” said Rivas at the weigh in supervised by the Quebec
Athletic Commission Thursday afternoon. “I know I have the
potential necessary to become WBC bridgerweight world
champion. I got a great training camp and I am ready for
this challenge. I know that I improved my technic
offensively and defensively since my fight with the British
Dillan Whyte in 2019 in Great Britain. I really believe that
I will deliver a very good performance in this match up with
Ryan Rozicki and I will be the winner.” Rivas is ranked
first contender for this vacant title.
“Oscar was weighing 235 pounds few years ago, but now at 224
pounds, he is faster than ever,” said the trainer Marc
Ramsay. “And Oscar is right, he is better technically that
he was few years ago. Me too I am confident to see Oscar
deliver a great performance Friday evening. But Oscar got to
be perfectly concentrate of his performance from the first
to the last minute of the fight, because he is facing a very
good opponent, a solid puncher, a boxer determined to become
WBC bridgerweight champion of world. It will certainly be a
fascinating fight.”
Rozicki said: “I am eating better than in the past, and this
situation made me a faster boxer. I still am a solid
puncher, I got a perfect training camp, and trust me, I am
really prepared mentally and physically for this challenge.
Like Rojas, I am determined to become world champion.”
In tha preliminaries bouts of the evening, the welterweight
(147 pounds) Sébastien Bouchard (19-2-0), from Baie
Saint-Paul, Quebec, will fight the Mexican Sylvio Ortega
(24-2-0-), the Montrealer light heavyweight (175 pounds)
Terry Osias (9-0-0) will face the Mexican Joaquin Murriota
(9-9-3), the Montrealer super welterweight (154 pounds)
Kevin Menoche (4-0-0) will be opposed to Thad Buntsma
(2-2-0), from Oshawa, Ontario, the heavyweight Alexis
Barrière (3-0-0), from Québec City, will fight the Mexican
Rafael Abdula Sanchez Rojas (5-1-0) and finally, the
cruiserweight (200 pounds) Francis Charbonneau (3-1-0), from
Saint-Hyacinthe, Québec, will meet the Montrealer Alexandre
Roberge (1-1-0).
At the weigh in supervised by the Quebec Athletic
Commission, Rivas posted an official weight of 222.2 pounds,
Rozicki 203 pounds, Bouchard 148.6 pounds, Ortega 148.2
pounds, Osias 172.6 pounds, Murriota 173.4 pounds, Menoche
153.8 pounds, Buntsma 153,4 pounds, Barrière 235 pounds,
Rojas 211 pounds, Charbonneau 199.8 pounds and finally,
Roberge 207.0 pounds.
