Foster Turns Back Ford,
Retains WBC Title In Houston
Houston's own O'Shaquie Foster successfully defended his WBC
super featherweight championship Saturday night, earning a
majority decision victory over former featherweight champion
Raymond Ford at the Fertitta Center.
The scores were 118-110, 116-112, and 114-114, reflecting a
competitive fight early before Foster began separating
himself down the stretch. Foster's superior timing, ring IQ,
and late-round work proved to be the difference as he closed
the show strong, particularly in the championship rounds.
Ford had his moments and remained competitive throughout,
but Foster's experience at 130 pounds showed as the fight
wore on. By the final bell, the champion had done enough to
retain his title and improve to 25-3.
Never one to waste a microphone, Foster immediately turned
his attention to bigger targets after the victory, calling
out Shakur Stevenson and signaling his desire for an even
larger fight next.
For now, however, the belt remains right where it started
the evening — around the waist of O'Shaquie Foster.
