British Boxing Monthly -"Hot
Prospects For 2005" Kid Diamond, Kelly Pavlik, Steven
Luevano
British Boxing Monthly today listed its ''Hot Prospects For
2005' which include Kid Diamond, Kelly Pavlik and Steven
Luevano of Top Rank.
Steve Farhood, a long-time boxing analyst, put a Top 10 list
together which includes the three from Top Rank. The 'Young
Guns' feature story appears in the January 2005 edition
which is now on newsstands.
Farhood, in his story, said "....here's a look at 10
U.S.-based fighters, listed in no particular order, who just
might break out in 2005...."
The list includes:
KID DIAMOND, LIGHTWEIGHT, 19-0, 11 KOs, LAS VEGAS
"...he sparkled underneath Barrera/Morales III, dropping and
stopping useful former contender Lamar Murphy in five
rounds.....in his four most recent bouts, the 5' 7" Diamond,
who has been compared to Kostya Tzyu, has faced opponents
with a combined record of 60-16-1. He's scored four KOs in
nine rounds. This is an advanced prospect.
KELLY PAVLIK, MIDDLEWEIGHT, 23-0, 18 KOs, YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO
"...his most recent win was perhaps his toughest test, and
that came against veteran Ross Thompson.......Pavlik is a
physical specimen - virtually no body fat - who flaunts
fight-ending power...."
STEVEN LUEVANO, FEATHERWEIGHT, 26-0, 12 KOs, LA PUENTE,
CALIF.
".....his best win, a 10th-round stoppage, came against Fred
Nil, who was 17-2-2.....be sure that in '05, Luevano will be
tested for the first time at the world-class level."
FRIDAY NIGHT ACTION: Welterweight Manuel 'Shot Gun' Gomez of
Laredo will be featured tonight at the Dodge Arena in
Hidalgo, Texas. Gomez, 17-3-1 in his last 20 bouts, will
take on Christopher Henry. On the undercard, junior
welterweight Mike Alvarado, 5-0, 5 KOs, will make his debut
with Top Rank. Alvarado is handled by Shelly Finkel who has
worked with many future stars. Telefutura will televise.....
