Rivas Will Fight Whyte In England

By Daniel Cloutier

MONTRÉAL - The Montrealer Colombian Oscar Rivas (26 -0-0), who is ranked in the Top 10 of the international ratings, will fight the WBC first contender, the heavyweight Dillian Whyte (25-1-0), July 20th in London, England.

The winner of this fight will be in position to dispute a world title match before the end of the year.
At his last bout in January at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York, Rivas beat the American Bryant Jennings by TKO in the 12th and last round. Since this win, Rivas is ranked fifth contender by the WBO, sixth by the WBA, seventh by the IBF and 10th by the WBC.

“It’s a great opportunity for me,” said Rivas. “It was my ambition to face a fighter ranked first contender. Whyte got a great career, he is an excellent fighter, but I have the conviction I will stay undefeated July 20th. I am so determinate to fight in a world championship bout before the end of the year.”

Whyte replied: “If Rivas is dreaming to fight in a world championship bout, it’s exactly the same situation for me. I will beat Rivas and challenge the WBC champion of the world, the American Deontay Wilder (41-1-0). I am positive I have the weapons to become WBC champion of the world.”

The promoter of the event, the British Eddie Hearn, said: “I am sure it will be a fantastic fight July 20th. Rivas is undefeated, and Whyte is ranked WBC first contender. And both won their last fight by KO or TKO. I am positive that this fight will draw a good crowd July 20th.”
