Boxeo Telemundo, the #1 boxing program among Hispanics and longest-running sports show in Spanish-language television, returns with a revamped format that will feature live match coverage coupled with fight analysis and discussions around the latest boxing and MMA news stories. Led by Telemundo Deportes’ Karim Mendiburu serving as the new studio host, the show also expands its digital footprint with the launch of an extensive lineup of series and special content around each season, and throughout the year. The new season of Boxeo Telemundo premieres Friday, March 5 at 12 a.m. ET/ 11 p.m. CT on Telemundo, TelemundoDeportes.com and the Telemundo Deportes app. Live match coverage will be headlined by undefeated WBO/NABO Jr Welterweight champion Yomar “The Magic” Alamo facing Jesus “Barreterito” Beltran.

“We are excited to expand the scope of Boxeo Telemundo across all platforms so fans can get more updates and insights around combat sports, in addition to the best live bout action that we have been delivering for over 30 years,” said Robert Pardo, Vice President of Sports Content for Telemundo Deportes. “Boxeo Telemundo is evolving to become the ultimate combat sports destination in Spanish-language media providing fans up-to-the-minute news and information anytime, anywhere.”

Karim Mendiburu joins Boxeo Telemundo as the new studio host, bringing more than 16 years of experience covering major boxing events for Telemundo Deportes’ sports show Titulares y Más. As the home where champions are born, Boxeo Telemundo will continue its focus on presenting live boxing matches that showcase up-and-coming Hispanic boxers. The live matches will now be complemented with more in-depth fight analysis and new segments incorporating boxing and MMA news and discussions. Mendiburu will be joined by Jorge Calvo and Andres Bermudez as the core play-by-play and commentator team. The show will also feature a rotation of renowned boxing contributors including Claudia Trejos, Maria del Mar Torres, and Omar Amador, along with boxing world champions and MMA stars as special guests.

In 2021, Boxeo Telemundo will present four seasons of championship boxing, each featuring three episodes of live events and a Special Edition episode that will wrap up the season highlighting the best-of season look-backs, never-seen undercards, and news and segments from the world of boxing and MMA.

Boxeo Telemundo will be enhanced by an extensive lineup of content across the Telemundo Deportes app, TelemundoDeportes.com and social media, throughout the year. Special content will be featured every week during the season with additional specials and packages available during off-season. These include: Boxeo Telemundo: Entre las Cuerdas, a year-round sports-talk show hosted by Mendiburu with contributors as special guests to discuss the latest topics in combat sports every Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET on YouTube, Twitter and Facebook; Boxeo Telemundo: En Esta Esquina, a sit-down with boxing and MMA personalities hosted by Omar Amador, with new interviews every Tuesday on TelemundoDeportes.com; and Boxeo Telemundo Plus, a social livestream on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter to be produced every Friday during each season ahead of Boxeo Telemundo’s broadcasts. The livestream will be produced from studio just before the broadcast to recap the week’s action and what’s coming.

During each season TelemundoDeportes.com will feature profiles on each fighter prior to every event, followed by special reports from the weigh-in on Thursdays, via social media platforms. These series and content will be complemented by behind-the-scenes, news packages and photo galleries distributed across social media and TelemundoDeportes.com.

Boxeo Telemundo’s March 5th premiere will be headlined by undefeated WBO/NABO Jr Welterweight champion Yomar “The Magic” Alamo of Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico, who faces Mexican challenger Jesus “Barreterito Beltran” of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, live from Osceola Heritage Park Events Center in Kissimmee, Florida. Following recommended CDC guidelines for public sporting events in Florida, the bout will feature a live audience for the first time since the pandemic began. The pride of Aguas Buenas, Yomar Alamo (18-0-1 12 KO's) returns to action after one year of inactivity due to Covid-19. In his last fight, Alamo outgunned then undefeated Kendo "Tremendo" Castaneda in a battle of the undefeated on Telemundo. On the other side of the ring, Jesus Beltran (17-3-2 10 KO's) will now be dropping in weight where he will campaign at super lightweight. Beltran has his own championship pedigree as he comes from a fighting family: his brother Miguel Beltran is a fighter and his cousin Raymundo Beltran is a former WBO world champion.
