This is what today’s participants had to say:
LAMONT "THE REAPER" ROACH JR., FORMER WORLD CHAMPION:
"I'm supposed to be here, and I'm fulfilling my destiny."
"William Zepeda is a top contender, and we wouldn't want
this fight for the vacant title to be against anyone other
than someone of his level."
"I'm working my ass off in camp to do everything I can to
take this belt home."
"On August 1, I'll claim my second world title in my second
division, and the sky's the limit."
WILLIAM "EL CAMARÓN" ZEPEDA, FORMER INTERIM WORLD CHAMPION:
"First of all, I want to thank Oscar De La Hoya, Golden Boy
Promotions and Mauricio Sulaimán for this opportunity. We
have a great challenge in front of us, and we've been
preparing for it for a long time."
"I know Lamont is a fighter with tremendous experience who
is coming to win, but we have the same mentality."
"On August 1, we plan on taking that belt home."
"We know Roach has proven his quality at the highest level,
but we have also gained valuable experience in major fights.
We have worked hard for this opportunity, and we are ready
to give the fans a great fight."
RAYMOND "DANGER" MURATALLA, IBF LIGHTWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION:
"I'm super thankful that this fight is happening. I'm super
thankful that these networks and promotions are able to work
together. I'm excited for August 1 and ready to put on a
show. I think the fans are going to love it."
"I'm not afraid of whoever they put in front of me. I'm
there to do one thing, and that's to win."
"He was the only one that said yes. Simple as that."
This is by far the best quote from Muratalla and will get
picked up by boxing media.
"I want to be active. I want to keep fighting. Whoever says
yes is what I'm taking."
"I'm definitely looking forward to taking over. It's looking
great for me. I'm feeling great, and hopefully the big
fights are next."
OSCAR DE LA HOYA, CHAIRMAN AND CEO OF GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS:
"What really excites me about this fight, taking off my
promoter hat and putting on my fighter hat, is the styles,
the hunger and the discipline that both fighters have."
"You have two guys that are so motivated to get back into
that winner's circle."
"It's not going to be easy whatsoever for either guy. It's
going to be a great fight. It's going to be a very
entertaining fight, and I'm going to call it right now —
Fight of the Year."
"Working with PBC, Tom Brown and any promoter out there to
make the best fights happen is what the sport needs, and
that's what we do here at Golden Boy."
"The fact that boxing is back on linear television is only a
positive for everybody. The fact that we can simultaneously
air fights on DAZN and TNT is monumental."
TOM BROWN, PRESIDENT OF TGB PROMOTIONS:
"I believe this fight is going to be very violent.”
"Lamont Roach is battle-tested, very dangerous and very
confident going into this fight.”
"The fans watching live in Las Vegas and those watching on
TNT Sports and DAZN are going to be in for a very special
night of boxing."
