Hearn Backs Teremoana For Greatness As Aussie Heavyweight
Teases Fight On Major Card Next
Teremoana Teremoana dismantled DeAndre Savage in a
destructive second round stoppage as Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn
declared Australia is witnessing the emergence of a future
World Heavyweight Champion.
The Paris Games Olympian has a perfect professional record
with 12 wins and 12 knockouts after adding Savage to the
list in a breathtaking performance at The Star Gold Coast.
The American, who entered the contest full of confidence
with a record of 11-1 (11 KOs), was hit by a barrage of
devastating punches in the second round and could not climb
back to his feet, leaving the referee no choice to wave off
the contest.
Speaking immediately after the victory on DAZN’s Kayo Sports
and Fox Sports, Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn said:
“I promised you that Australia has the best chance it's ever
had to have a Heavyweight superstar in Teremoana Teremoana.
"I believe he can bring World Heavyweight boxing here. If
there’s ever someone that’s gonna crack the code of boxing
in Australia to take it mainstream I truly believe this is
the man."
A beaming Teremoana performed his trademark homage to his
Cook Islands heritage after the win and said he was
targeting another step up as he plots his pathway to the top
of the sport – teasing his next fight could take place on a
major card.
Teremoana said: “I’ve heard along the grapevine I should be
on the AJ-Fury undercard 'cause that’s the Heavyweights
giving up their mantle.
"So it will be good to get us new generation there and just
show them that us Aussie‘s got the thunder from Down Under."
Another Australia future World Title hopeful in Michael
Zerafa, meanwhile, put on a dominant display as he battled
it out against Alejandro Ortiz, ending the dangerous
Venezuelan's night with a TKO in the eighth round.
Zerafa said: "He [Ortiz] was a tough awkward fighter, I
haven't been in the ring for that long so it was good to get
the eight rounds. This is the start of something great".
The remainder of the undercard put on a dazzling display of
boxing for the sold out crowd at The Star Gold Coast.
Omar El-Abdallah had a vocal audience cheering him on for
this third round TKO of Jordan Towns.
Jazzy Parr was a crowd favourite going up against fellow
Queenslander Jemma Peart, winning by unanimous points
decision after eight rounds. And Jack Bowen was victorious
as he stopped China's Mielifeier Dalielibieke.
The night solidified Matchroom Boxing's growing presence in
Australia, live on DAZN's Kayo Spiorts and Fox Sports, in a
true showcase of up and coming and established boxing talent
Down Under.
Indeed, it promises to be an exciting time for Australian
boxing as the Matchroom stable goes from strength to
strength.
