With no meaningful or worthwhile PPV boxing events taking place in Las Vegas this weekend the safe money now is on the Elvis Presley sighting.

Super Bantamweights Diego De La Hoya (12-0,7 KO’s) and Jesus Ruiz (34-7-5, 21 KO’s) put on ten great rounds of action for the fans at The Belasco Theatre on Friday night as they brawled for the vacant WBC Youth World super bantamweight title.

Both fighters bore the marks of battle after the bout and truthfully it was Diego who was worse for wear. Pawing at a nasty mouse under his right eye when the bout came to an end, Diego knew he had won the fight. He fought hard through the injury all night and in the end he was on the receiving end of a deserved unanimous decision victory. The televised portion of the card can be seen on Estrella TV and will feature the undefeated Brazilian Super Lightweight Everton Dos Santos Lopes (3-0, 1 KO). Let’s be honest, by most accounts leading up to the Shane Mosley vs. Ricardo match-up at The Forum in Inglewood on Saturday night, this event looked more like a circus than a boxing promotion. From what seemed to be staged antics at the press conferences and all the Tweets in between any hope for a real show seemed fruitless at best.

To compound the problem a fight for Los Angeles bragging rights was going down about 15 minutes away and the buzz surrounding that one was real.

In a battle of Southern California featherweights, Leo "El Terremoto" Santa Cruz, (31-0-1, 17 KOs) defeated Abner Mares, (29-2-1, 15 KOs) by majority decision in a fight reminiscent of Mexican wars between boxing legends Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales on Saturday night. Scores tallied 117-111 twice and 114-114 in front of a raucous crowd of 13,109 at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles for the Premier Boxing Champions on ESPN main event.
