This & That
By William Trillo
I’ve had a few things bouncing around in my cranium over the
past week and figured now is as good a time as any to clear my
head. In no particular order here comes a little bit of this and
a little bit of that.
Prediction: Abner Mares will be knocking out Leo Santa Cruz
around the seventh or eighth round. With a chip on his shoulder
almost as big as the house Uncle Al bought for Little Leo you
can rest assured Mares feels way more than slighted. The fact of
the matter is Abner feels like he has become the B-Side to a
company that whispered in his ear a few years back and tricked
the fighter into leaving both his original Manager and Promoter.
Look for Mares and Karma to settle the score in Los Angeles this
weekend.

Carlos Carlson Retains WBC Latino
Title Friday Night In Corona, CA
In the "New Blood" main event, Carlos Carlson
(19-1, 12 KOs) showed his mettle by battling through an early
set back to retain his WBC Latino Bantamweight Title over the
tough Pedro Melo (13-9-2, 4 KOs) in front of a sold out crowd at
the Omega Products Outdoor Arena in Corona, Calif. on Friday
night.
In the third round, Melo caught Carlson with a strong right hand
as he was coming in. The knockdown didn't faze Carlson, as he
shook it off and continued to be the more aggressive fighter.
Carlson worked off his jab to set up body punches that
eventually wore down the smaller Melo. Click Here

middleweight title, and the WBA Super World
middleweight title. Lemieux holds the IBF World
middleweight title. All of these belts will be

Marc Ramsay: "Golovkin Is Great,
But He Is A Human Being, He Can Be Beat"
By Daniel Cloutier
MONTRÉAL - The Montrealer Marc Ramsay, a remarkable boxing
trainer, transformed radically David Lemieux in the last four
years. At his first years in pro boxing, Lemieux, like Arturo
Gatti was in 1998 and 1999, was strictly a predictable brute who
was trying to cut the opponent’s head on each punch.
With this poor strategy, Lemieux lost two consecutive fights in
2011, against the Mexican Marco Antonio Rubio and the Montrealer
and former WBA super welterweight Joachim Alcine. Click Here For

One fighter was making his comeback; the other was coming to
America for his first fight on USA soil. One fighter performed
over and above the expectations, the other failed to live up to
the hype. In both cases the change in scenery made all the
difference in the world for both men.
The fighter making his comeback was Lucian Bute. For 19 long
months Bute was inactive due to any number of reasons. As he
searched for answers both physical and mental Lucian courted a
few different ideas and trainers as he contemplated his return.
It was some 4 months ago that Bute turned up in the Montreal Gym
of The Grant Brothers Howard and Otis. As it turned out it was a
perfect fit and Bute’s performance against Andrea Di Luisa on
Saturday night hearkened back to the days of old. Along the way
Bute displayed some new wrinkles, mostly on his inside game.
After four rounds Bute stood over his fallen foe and proudly
announced, “Lucian Bute is back!”

Lucian Bute: "I Want So Much To
Thank Howard And Otis Grant"

MONTRÉAL - Lucian Bute looked like a kid
in a toy store 48 hours before Christmas just two hours
after his biggest performance in three years.
The Montrealer Romanian just got out of the three years
of dark days. Saturday evening in the ring of the Bell
Centre, he scored an impressive win by TKO in less than
four rounds of action against the European Champion, the
Italian Andrea Di Luisa (17-3-0). After studied the Di
Luisa’s style in the first three minutes, Bute opened
the machine in the second round. He connected Di Luisa
with a lot of solid shots i the second and third rounds,
and he floored him in the fourth with a great left power
shot. Di Luisa got back on his legs, but Bute maintained
his intense attacks. The Di Luisa’s corner men threw
right away the towel, allowing automatically to Bute a
win by TKO.
