Seemingly every week I get a call from one of my local peers who
asks if I am going to the local show of the week here in
Southern California. I usually answer that I cannot make the
show for any number of reasons, truth be told it normally ends
up becoming more of a hassle than it is worth. But due to the
constant prodding I decided to try to soften my views on the
matter and make an effort to get coverage for the local shows.
Around that same time I found one of our local readers and her
husband, Roy and Marlene Marquez, who were willing to step up
and handle the local scene. They have done an excellent job and
I thank them both for their commitment to the local scene, they
have done a great job and I am proud to have them as part of the
Pound4Pound.com team.
With that said, Friday night was a case in point why I have less

Hill vs. Brudov For WBA Cruiserweight Title
Virgil Hill is scheduled to fight Valery Brudov
in Atlantic City, N.J., for the World Boxing Association
cruiserweight title in January of 2006.Silver Hawk Boxing of Las
Vegas won the WBA purse bid. Hill and Brudov will split $241,000
for the Jan. 27 fight. Hill, 41, has not fought since losing the
WBA cruiserweight belt to Jean-Marc Mormeck in May 2004. Brudov,
28, has a 30-0 record, but has yet to fight outside Russia or
his home country of France. The WBA cruiserweight title is
vacant because Mormeck was elevated to super champion status
after winning a unification bout. Brudov is the No. 1-ranked
challenger and Hill is No. 2.
Duddy Comes To South Florida For "Global Warfare"
Ireland’s John Duddy is making his way to South
Florida as part of the Global Warfare event to be held on
December 15th, at the Seminole Hard Rock Live Arena in
Hollywood, Florida.

Rahman Will Receive His Belt Dec. 20 In Cancun
The World Boxing Council ratifies the ceremony of
December 20, 2005 in Cancun, Mexico, where Hasim Rahman will be
officially confirmed as the WBC heavyweight champion of the
world, with the presentation of the green belt.
A purse offer will be held during the ceremony in case that
champion Hasim Rahman and James Toney, first official
challenger, do not reach an agreement for the mandatory title
bout, by December 20.

Head To Head Press Conference
With both main event fighters in attendance,
waiting upon the arrival of promoter Frank Warren to start the
press conference, Audley Harrison and Danny Williams were asked
to face off for photographers. Upon Warren’s arrival and the
start of the press conference, it was announced that Danny
Williams was refusing to join the dais with Harrison present.
His trainer Jimmy McDonnell spoke for his fighter. Immediately
after the Q&A, Harrison left the area in utter disgust for
Williams. Only after Harrison’s departure did Williams agree to
meet with the press and answer questions. Below are quotes taken

"Camp Punisher" Update -
Jose Perez Jr. Signs Up With The Coast Guard
This just in from "Camp Punisher" According to
Jose's father the young super star featherweight has decided to
take a break from pro boxing and sign up with the Coast Guard.
Jose is a Northern California boxer who has the stuff legends
are made of and was one of USA Boxing's top amateur
featherweights, winning and retiring from the amateurs as the
2003 U.S. Men's National Champion. I had the honor of working
with Jose for several fights and can tell you from first hand
experience that this kid had and still has the potential to
become a world champion, Said Diamond (Jose's PR Manager). The
Punisher has a huge global fan base and will be missed, but we
all wish "The Punisher" the best and please remember your fans
have not forgotten about you Jose!

Don King Wins First Round Against Disney & ESPN
Legendary Boxing Promoter Don King Sues Disney
and ESPN for $2.5 Billion for Defamation and False Light
Stuart, FL- Today, a large victory for famed attorney Willie
Gary and his legal team has taken place in the Don King
defamation and false light lawsuit. Judge Jose E. Martinez ruled
in favor of the Gary team by granting their motion to remand the
case back to state court. This decision comes after the defense
requested that the case be removed from state court and
attempted to have it dismissed in federal court. Legendary
boxing promoter Don King filed a $2.5 billion lawsuit against
corporate giants Disney, ESPN, ABC Cable Networks and Advocate
Communications Inc., last January, for airing a highly
defamatory and reckless broadcast against King on Sports Century
that also portrays King in a false light.

While sitting at my desk this past Friday,
December 2, the day Robert Guerrero, our #2 ranked Featherweight
in the World was to fight, I received a notice from the
California State Athletic Commission that Robert had filed for
Arbitration to terminate our promotional agreement.
I've been with Robert since he was 18 years old and promoted his
first professional bout in 2001. I've never had a bad word with
Robert and believed that with his devotion to God he would
surely be a fighter never to be influenced by the dark side. Click

Sulaiman Explains Toney Ranking

When former WBC Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko was forced
to pull out of his scheduled title bout with Interim Champ Hasim
Rahman, which lead to Vitali's immediate retirement, the powers
that be at The WBC had to make some quick decisions in regard to
the now vacated title. The first step was easy enough as Hasim
Rahman was declared the new WBC Champion, no more interim title
for Hasim. Their next move was to name Vitali the Emeritus
Champion. In other words, Klitschko would be the number one
mandatory contender in the WBC in the event that he should
decide to make a comeback. As K2 Promotions top man, Tom
Loeffler said, "This is a testament to the way Vitali conducted

Sweetchuck’s Word: Venting

I do not know if any of you will consider this unprofessional or
not, nonetheless, I am in the mood of venting my frustrations on
the sport that I love and would consider my life. I have
contacted Gus Curren to see what was going on with Michael
Marrone’s fight on Dec. 15. Gus informed me that Micheal was
suppose to be fight Kevin Montiy (15-3, last fight was on ESPN
where he was knocked out by Kevin McBride), however, after
holding out for more money (which he got) he was no longer going
to honor his contract. It goes to show the integrity of the
sport when a journeyman can make these types of demands and then
decide, “No I don’t want to lose to that kid.”
Our favorite response to a question in 2005 goes
to Everlast CEO George Horowitz, who in a recent interview was
asked, "So how does it feel to be the 800-pound gorilla?"
The response will breed one of Pound4Pound.coms top slogans,
"Yes, we are a big company with a great heritage, and there's
nothing wrong, I guess, with being an 800-pound gorilla if
you're an 800-pound gorilla," said Horowitz. "But we
don't act that way and I'm certainly not an 800-pound gorilla!"
There's nothing wrong with being an 800 pound gorilla, if you
are an 800 pound gorilla!

Purnell "Knock You Out" Gates Added To Iowa Card

Michigan UIBO Welterweight Champion Purnell Gates (8 -1, 6 KO's)
was added to Saturday, Dec 10th fight card in Blairstown Iowa
for a rematch with Johnny Battle, also of Michigan.
"I was prepared to fight Battle for an 8 round fight till he
started talkin trash, said Gates. I already knocked him out back
in August and now He wants a shot at my title and he's gonna get
it, knocked out that is"! Gates won the UIBO title on Nov, 19
after a smashing unanimous decision in Lansing, Michigan. This
will be his first defense of that title.

Miranda Challenges Taylor In His Hometown
As highly regard Middleweight contender, EDISON
MIRANDA watched the Taylor/Hopkins fight Saturday night at the
Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada, he told anyone that would
listen that he would beat Jermaine Taylor.
Later at the post fight press conference when Jermaine Taylor
said he would make his next defense against a top 10 or 12
opponent in his hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas, the
undefeated Miranda stated “I’ll fight him (Taylor) anywhere,
including in his hometown. He will be no problem for me.” The
confident Miranda is ranked #4 in the WBO, #7 in the IBF and #9
in the WBC and believes no one can beat him. He insisted that he
was ready to take out Jermaine Taylor in his hometown.

Urango Forced To Withdraw From "Global Warfare"
Due to an injury to his left hand, junior
welterweight contender Juan Urango has been forced to withdraw
from his bout on the December 15th ‘Global Warfare’ card at the
Seminole Hard Rock Live Arena in Hollywood, Florida.
The injury, suffered during training, will sideline the unbeaten
knockout artist for the rest of 2005, and may require surgery.

Miguel Cotto Receives Fox Sports Award
Boxing Superstar Miguel Cotto was named
Outstanding Boxer of the Year on Monday night during the third
annual “Premios Fox Sports” show that took place Monday and
honors the top Latin American world athletes.
Cotto of Caguas, Puerto Rico is the current WBO junior
welterweight champion of the world and he is considered the best
amateur boxer in the history of Puerto Rico. He won the WBO
world title on September 11, 2004 with an explosive sixth round
TKO victory over his former amateur nemesis Kelson Pinto of
Brazil.

out all stops to try and keep his knock out record up. Joe said
Monday, " I've been working extra hard in the gym the last 6
weeks, and my Trainer, Russ Chairy, has been pushing me real
hard, Coach still say's I have a long way to go but this guy
(Joey Ortiz) is in deep water come Saturday night ! I know it's
his Hometown and I won't let it go to the cards". Bazooka Joe

Prince Badi Retains Title, Collects Another Belt

(24-2-1, 13 KO's) took on a hard hitting Thomas Reid
(34-17-1, 13 KO's) from Jackson, TN. at the St. Pete
Coliseum presented by Silver Hawk Boxing in Association
with Star Fight Productions.
Ajamu being presented the (WBC CABOFE) really took a
hell of a beating and successfully battled with Reid
through out the fight showing a very strong jab and a
nice short right hand that many would say pissed off
Reid, as Ajamu looked well polished in the early rounds
of the fight until Reid decided to take matters in his
own hands by winging shots at Ajamu and started to get
in close landing successful hooks to the head and body

Boxing Diametrically Different
Jose Sulaiman will be celebrating today his 30
years as President of the World Boxing Council, and our sport
itself and all those involved in it are happy and rejoicing in a
well-deserved recognition to the man that not only revived
boxing but took it to unprecedented levels of excellence no one
could have ever expected in the brief period of three decades.
But make no mistake, things have not been easy at all for this
outstanding leader; all to the contrary, since fighting vested
interests, some absurd traditions, stubbornness and above all,

"Thunder" Gatti (39-7, 30 KO's) went across the bridge
last night to St. Pete to support Hall of Fame Trainer
James "Buddy" McGirt at the Silver Hawk Boxing show
featuring Prince Badi vs. Thomas Reid.
Humbly addressed his feelings towards his fans and
boxing. Gatti: I want to thank all my fans for the
support that they have shown me through the years. On
June 25th a had a bad night and I have to rebound. I
really did not address what I was feeling at the time
with my team in camp. The fight was just too important
because I am not known for backing down to anyone, but
it wasn’t my night. Not taking anything away from Floyd
Mayweather, Jr. He is a great champion.

It's Deja Vu For Hopkins vs. Taylor 2

Bernard Hopkins knew that after his split
decision loss to Jermain Taylor in their first fight he
would have to take the rematch out of the judges hands,
to win this one, an execution would be the only way to
assure himself a victory in the rematch. Still using the
analogy of The Matador and the bull, Hopkins told
everyone that he was going to load Taylor up with
"Porcupine Pins" and when the time was right, he was
going to knock him out, leaving no room for the judges
to rob him again. But in a carbon copy of the first
fight, Bernard let this one slip away early and when it
appeared he had stuck Jermain with enough porcupine pins
and could move in for the kill, he couldn’t pull the
trigger and without being able to perform the execution,
Jermain escaped with a close unanimous decision,
retaining his belts and claim to the Undisputed
Middleweight Title.

Championship "Fan Fight" This Week:
Neil vs Enzo II
This week will mark the rematch between the
currently number 1 and number 2 ranked Fan Fighters to determine
the next Fan Fight Champion. For Enzo Macaroni (7-3, 5 KO's) it
will be his 2nd bid at a title. His first challenge for the
title back in February this year ended in 2 at the hands of the
now retired Neckodeemus. For Neil1690 (5-4, 3 KO's) it's the
chance to become Fan Fights first 3-Time Champion. His first
challenge for the title back in February this year was also an
unsuccessful one at the hands of Neckodeemus. Then in June, Neil
won the title from Neckodeemus' lone conqueror, the infamous
Rust Oleum. Neil would then lose the title in controversial
fashion in his very next fight vs. J.G., however, the rematch
proved Neil was the real champion. After an unsuccessful rematch
with Neckodeemus in September, the title became vacated
following his retirement from Fan Fight. Over the course, Enzo
Macaroni and Neil have reached the top 2 ranks in Fan Fight,
having fought each other at the beginning of this year. Their
first fight (Jan, 05) ended with a victorious Neil, by a single
point. This rematch is a not miss one.

(now 1-0, 1 KO) took on also debuting Balance on the topic:

Taylor Does It Again!
Twice As Lackluster!
Twice As Controversial This Time!
Jermain Taylor successfully retained the
undisputed middleweight titles with a unanimous 115-113 on all
the cards decision. The fight was twice as lackluster as their
first meeting. For the first 5 rounds, more of the same, 2-10
punches landed per round. In round 6 Taylor stepped it up just a
tad, but back came Hopkins in round 7 in what appeared to be
still pretty close rounds. There were very few clear decisive
rounds, however Hopkins again hurt Taylor going into the later
rounds and again appeared to be on the verge of scoring a
knockdown, but neither fighter would commit to more than a few
punches which provided a another pretty bad and boring fight.
Who wants a 3rd? Please no!

Vazquez Stops Larios On A Cut In 3
Israel Vazquez, now the IBF & WBC Super
Bantamweight Champion, dropped Oscar Larios in round 1 of their
third meeting. A left right hook combo followed by 2 uppercuts
put Larios on the canvas, however a questionable follow up right
hand from Vazquez landed on Larios who was already down. Larios
would make it out of the round and make a good comeback from the
knockdown, but in round 3, Vazquez applied some heavy pressure
and staggered Larios and a left palm followed by a hard right
hand opened up an immediate cut over Larios' left eye that
poured blood and prompted the referee to pause the bout to have
the doctor look at the cut. Upon advice of the physician the
fight was stopped and Vazquez was declared the winner.
Quartey Stops Bojorquez In 10th - Wright Next?
Ike Quartey (now 37-2-1 31 KO's) got off to an
early start against Carlos Bojorquez, shooting his famous
"Bazooka" jab and marking up Carlos' face in the opening round.
Carlos stood strong however and was very much in the fight.
Quartey began to tire and lean on the ropes taking some heavy
shots from Bojorquez, but as the rounds went on, Bojorquez was
the worse for wear as Quartey's jab and combinations were just
too much. Through rounds 7-9, Ike looked like the prime Quartey,
sticking his fast jab out there numerous times, holding his
guard in tight without the need to sway a punch, but ducking
when needed. In the 10th and final round, Joe Cortez had seen
enough and waived the fight off with just :48 left in the round.
With the win, Quartey, already ranked 5 in the world, edges
closer to a possible showdown against Winky Wright, which could
prove to be a pretty top notch battle between two of the best
jabbers with a similar tight guard defense.
Bojorquez falls to 25-8-6 with 21 KO's.
Guerrero Vows To Be Back In 2006
Last night at the Tachi Indian Casino, Robert
Guerrero and Gamaliel Diaz were in an intense battle that was
decided by one point in a very close split decision. "The Ghost"
(16-1-1) tasted defeat for the first time in his young career,
but vows to be back in early 2006.
"There is no doubt in my mind that I'm one of the best fighters
in the featherweight division. I felt I did enough to win the
fight, but the judges didn't see it that way. I take my hat off
to Diaz. He was a very tough fighter. My team and I will regroup
and look at what needs to be addressed. My faith in my Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ is stronger than ever and I believe he will
provide for me all that I need to be a world champion. I'm only
22 and believe me, I'll be back."

could call him “Ghostbuster.”
In a fast-paced, hotly contested slugfest between two
young, top 10-ranked featherweights, Diaz showed that he
was not afraid of ghosts by taking a thrilling 12-round
split decision over one of boxing’s brightest stars, the
previously unbeaten Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, Friday
on “ShoBox: The New Generation” on SHOWTIME.

Wednesday night closely resembled the feel that area boxing fans
enjoyed over thirty years ago.
North Bergen, made more popular by producer Ron Howard’s movie,
"Cinderella Man", for being the home of the late world
heavyweight champion James J. Braddock , also served as a hotbed
for club show boxing during the 1970’s. The no longer standing
Embassy Theatre was to boxing then, what Philadelphia’s
legendary Blue Horizon means to the art and science of pugilism
today.
