  Joe Smith Jr. Nominated For
2020 Fighter Of The Year By The BWAA

Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing is pleased to announce that Long Island's own, "The Common Man" JOE "THE BEAST" SMITH JR. (26-3 21KO'S) has been nominated for 2020 Fighter of the Year, by the Boxing Writers Association of America.

Smith Jr.'s nomination comes on the heels of a spectacular 2020, in which he dominated then #1 rated light heavyweight Jesse Hart, in January on ESPN to win the WBO NABO Light Heavyweight Title. In August, Smith Jr. would return to the ring once again on ESPN in a WBO World title eliminator against then #1 rated light heavyweight and former world champion, Eleider Alvarez. Smith Jr. would once again dazzle boxing fans with an electric 9th round knockout victory, sending Alvarez through the ropes, reminiscent of his 2016 knockout of boxing legend Bernard Hopkins.

  Round 12: Canelo's Grand Performance
By Mauricio Sulaimán – Son of José Sulaimán – WBC President
Saul “Canelo” Álvarez achieved another resplendent glory this past Saturday by dominating and overwhelming British Callum Smith at the Alamodome in San Antonio. A superb promotion with spectacular production, an extravaganza that wraps up a complicated year for the world of sports, because the activity for fans was completely shot down for several months, fans suffered from not being able to watch any sports around the world, eventually some sports began activity without fans, we experienced enhanced production through important innovations and the year is closing with several major events held with fans in the stands under strict safety protocols.

In a dominant performance Saul “Canelo” Alvarez seemingly never took a backward step inside the ring as he unanimously defeated the now dethroned champ Callum Smith (27-1, 19 KO’s). Chalk this one up as a good old fashioned butt kicking. Give Smith kudos for never going down over the twelve round shellacking but make no mistake about it, this fight was a showcase for Canelo. He used the moment in the spotlight to put a stamp on his claim to being the best Pound4Pound fighter in the world.

Golovkin Discovers The Fountain Of Youth

By William Trillo
Photo: Melina Pizano/Matchroom & Michael Owens/Matchroom

As the story goes, it was in the 16th century that Spanish explorer Ponce De Leon went to Florida in search of “The Fountain Of Youth”. His search came up empty. But…some 500 years later while on his travels to Florida it appears Gennady Golovkin has not only found, but drank from the elusive regenerating fountain.

After a fourteen-month absence from the ring the big question to be answered was whether or not “Father Time” had finally caught up up with GGG. Maybe he was now only a shell of his former self.

To do this, the one nicknamed "Solid" competed against Rolando Paredes (16-12-2, 11 KOs).
