Brandon Figueroa pulled off
a stunning late comeback Saturday night, stopping Nick
Ball in the final round to capture the WBA featherweight
championship at Liverpool’s Echo Arena.
Competing outside the U.S. for the first time, Figueroa
(27-2-1, 20 KOs) dropped Ball (23-1-1, 13 KOs) just
seconds into Round 12 with a crushing overhand left that
caught the champion mid-attack. Ball fell face-first to
the canvas and narrowly beat the count, but he was
clearly compromised.
