Compare Kessler/Andrade To Calzaghe/Manfredo -
3 To 1 Odds vs. 33 To 1 Odds, What A "Joke"
By Bret "The Threat" Newton
Kessler fought the legitimate number 1 contender
who was also undefeated and deserved the shot, Librado Andrade.
Kessler preformed a one sided clinic over Andrade that could
very well have been stopped after the power punches Andrade
took. Never seriously hurt, but the precaution of long term
effects would be the reason for stopping that fight if any. Sure
enough, the fight went the distance and Kessler won with his
best performance to date.
"Joke" Calzaghe on the other hand takes on the Contender who DIDN'T
win, and with only 2 wins in a row, didn't seriously deserve a
shot at the title. We love Manfredo but no one seriously gave
him a chance to win, despite hoping he would somehow pull it
out. Calzaghe throws a bunch of wild, awkward, slapping punches
and overwhelms Manfredo, but that's about it. No shot snapped
his head back like Kessler did to Andrade. Never did Manfredo
wobble or get caught off balance like Kessler did to Andrade.
Manfredo ducks some shots, has his hands up, fight gets stopped.
No wonder Kessler doesn't want to go to Whales, the fight would
get stopped in the first round from a Calzaghe jab. Good thing
Andrade chose Denmark instead, Calzaghe's ref would have stopped
that in one as well.
Calzaghe most likely would have gone on to win the fight, but by
stopping the fight early it took away from a possible great
finish by Calzaghe, or a possible chance after Calzaghe gave an
extreme amount of energy and could have possibly punched himself
out like he often does.
Andrade took massive shots, fight wasn't stopped.
Manfredo took pitty-patt, sloppy shots, fight stopped.
Can someone explain that to us?
