WBF super flyweight
champion Gerry “Geronimo” Penalosa (48-5-2, 33 KOs)
headlines “Friday Night Fights,” promoted by Knockout
Boxing in association with the Rivera Brothers, June 10
at the National Guard Armory in Lynn, Massachusetts.
Penalosa, fighting out of the Philippines, has been
inactive since capturing the WBF title last November via
a seventh-round TKO of Bangsaen Sithpraprom. The
multi-talented southpaw faces Colombian veteran Reynaldo
Hurtado Arendo (36-6-1, 27 KOs), who unsuccessfully
fought for the IBF bantamweight title in 1995, in the
non-title, eight round main event.
In the co-feature, Guatemalan featherweight Castulo “El
Pubeioso” Gonzalez (4-0, 1 KO), now fighting out of
Wilmington (MA), fights in his first six-round match
against Oscar De La Cruz (2-1, 1 KO, of Atlanta.
Gonzalez captured a silver medal at the 2003 Pan-Am
Games during his celebrated amateur career.
Also on the card in four-round matches are popular
Marlboro junior middleweight Bobby McAndrews against
Mike Bernal (2-1), of Dorchester (MA); Waltham
heavyweight Matt Coppola (1-0, 1 KOs) tangles with Elija
Dickens, of Philadelphia, in his pro debut; Haverhill
via Dominican Republic junior middleweight Angel Vargas
(1-1, 1 KOs) squares-off against Rashand Bland, of
Cincinnati; Dorchester junior middleweight Robert Hunt
makes his pro debut versus Anthony Brown (0-1), of
Cleveland; Lynn junior middleweight Andy Rivera (1-0)
faces TBA.

Harrison's Back Against
the Wall in Manchester

WBO Featherweight Champion
Scott Harrison faces a true do or die situation against
his most dangerous domestic rival, three time world
title challenger Michael Brodie, this Friday at
Manchester, England's enormous MEN Arena. The Frank
Maloney managed Glasgow man is coming off a sub-par
title defense against Colombia's Victor Polo and can ill
afford a slip up on what promoters Sports Network are
terming "The Battle of Britain".
Many feel Michael Brodie an uncrowned champion as the
Manchester
native turned in a tremendous performance against Willie
Jorrin at super feather a few years ago only to lose in
highly controversial fashion on the judges' scorecards.
Brodie also fought current WBC champion Injin Chi to a
standstill in their first fight last year, forcing a
draw with the Korean battler for the vacant title. The
brave Brit was overwhelmed in the return bout a few
months later, as he was handled convincingly by Chi
before suffering a seven round stoppage.
Harrison has experienced great frustrations of late,
barely escaping with his title belt intact after
tangling with the vastly under rated Victor Polo most
recently. Only a furious charge in the last round
allowed the Scot to preserve his WBO crown.
The champion goes into Friday's contest against Brodie
with a sizeable strength advantage and it's crucial that
the Glaswegian
maximize that edge to offset the superior boxing skills
wielded by the challenger.
Harrison has been campaigning for a shot at title
unification for some time now, yearning to share the
ring with either IBF/WBA kingpin Juan Manuel Marquez or
WBC titlist Injin Chi.
A loss to Brodie would conceivably rule out such a
step-up fight
but even a lackluster showing could seriously damage
Harrison's chances to realize his greater ambitions.
If Harrison can mount an unrelenting pressure attack on
his adversary, we could see Brodie run out of gas and
resort to slugging with the larger man, something "The
Real McCoy" would relish.
No matter what course of action takes place at the MEN
Arena the night before Ricky Hatton faces Kostya Tszyu,
a very entertaining bout should take place between Scott
Harrison and Michael Brodie for as long as it lasts.
With Showtime screening the struggle in America, British
boxing will definitely take a big step forward in the
spotlight the industry has collectively worked so hard
to obtain.

Hamburg/Germany - Dariusz "Tiger"
Michalczewski does not return into
the ring. In a press conference, 96 days
after his KO-loss against WBA light
heavyweight Champion Fabrice Tiozzo, the
37-year old Pole declared his career for
over.
"I think I can't push myself any longer
for 100 percent. If this is the
case, it's better to stop. I quit
without tears", says Michalczewski. "It
was a hard decision though."
The former WBO light heavyweight
Champion started his pro
career September '91 and fought 50
fights. He lost only the last two ones
(with 39 Knockouts).
Michalczewski held the WBO title for
nine years, from 1994 to 2003.
His biggest fight was 1997 against
Virgil Hill. Michalczewski won on the
scorecards and unified the WBO, WBA and
IBF titles. He also hold the WBO crown
in Cruiserweight.
"I quit fighting, but I will remain in
boxing. I will work with young boxers,
search for young talents", says
Michalczewski. His former coach Fritz
Sdunek, coach of WBC Heavyweight Champ
Vitali Klitschko, will support him on
this project. Michalczewski:
"It's my dream to find another 'Tiger'.
A young fighter like I was, who has a
big heart and goes straight on in the
ring. To watch my fighter in the future
in the ring would give me all time
boxing by myself back. This would be
amazing."
Also 37 years old
Michalczewski is
planning to set up a boxing tv show for
German or European TV - similar to the
NBC show "The Contender".

Team Ruiz calls
for stricter drug policy in boxing |

While Team Ruiz is
pleased that the World Boxing Association has entered an
order (dated May 16 2005) stripping James Toney and
reinstating John Ruiz as the WBA heavyweight champion,
based on Toney’s violation of New York State Athletic
Commission’s illegal substance policy.
Team Ruiz believes the sanction banning Toney from
competing for the WBA heavyweight title for two years
isn’t strict enough. The NYSAC meted out what, under its
current guidelines, is the maximum punishment for a
first offense: three-months suspension and $10,000 fine.
Toney and his team have since scoffed at the WBA title,
making the remarkable claim that he beat John “fair and
square,” despite testing positive for using an illegal
performance-enhancing substance.

If any fight could rival the brutal
confrontation of Castillo-Corrales, it could very well
be this Saturday night’s fight between IBF Super
Lightweight Champion Kostya “Thunder” Tszyu and
England’s #1 IBF/WBO challenger Ricky “The Hitman”
Hatton. Knowing Kostya as I do, I do not believe that
as intelligent a fighter as he is, he would ever allow
himself to engage in an all-out war such as
Castillo-Corrales, especially when it doesn’t jive with
his fighting style. Not many smart fighters would.
Prior to his fight with Trinidad, Winky Wright, when
asked if he expected to be in a fight comparable to the
“C” boys, replied: “Are you crazy, I don’t get into
fights like that.” “Famoso” Hernandez, who lost a split
decision to Jesus Chavez this past Saturday, alluded to
the same attitude when asked the same question. “Those
kind of fights take too much out of you.” In the fight
of the night, Famoso then went out and engaged in a
great brawl, both Carlos and Jesus gave it their all. A
fighter may have other ideas how a fight should be
fought, but then when a fight breaks
out…he’s right there in the middle of it.

With Wider Than Expected Unanimous Scores |

Israel Vazquez (now
38-3 with 27 KO's) appeared to start late vs tough
Armando Guerrero tonight at the Southland Sports Center
in Lynwood Illinois, but managed to pull out the 2nd
half of the fight to win a unanimous decision of 116 to
112 on all 3 cards. Armando pressed the action from
round 1 and looked to be on the verge of an upset
through the first 5 rounds. After a few close middle
rounds, Vazquez finally turned up the pace and appeared
to have taken the 2nd half of the fight, hurting
Guerrero in the final round. The fight was close and
could have gone either way by a point or 2. Guerrero
drops to 20-4-6 with 11 KO's. Vazquez, who retains his
IBF Super Bantamweight title is looking to land a 3rd
fight with WBC Champion Oscar Larios

Last
Friday, May 27th, Ricky
"The Hitman"
Hatton had once again
completed his infamously
grueling, and classically "old school", 15 round
body belt session.
It was the concluding piece of his training jigsaw, and
the customary
preparation for his upcoming super-fight with the
legendary 140lb king, Kostya
Tszyu.
Superlatives have been flowing from Billy Graham's
Manchester gym, where Hatton
works out of and known as the "Phoenix Camp", for weeks.
Many seasoned observers have remarked that the
Englishman has never looked so fit, so strong, so quick
or so confident. The mutual feeling from within Team
Hatton is that this,
by far and away, is the best
Ricky Hatton
that they have ever seen. They truly believe that the
Hitman's date with
destiny will be an encounter of the endearing variety,
as they have the ultimate faith in his ability, and can
only see one winner come June 5th.

Dear Tszyu Crew,
I have been in Manchester in the UK for over one week
now and everything is great. The people here have been
very friendly and my training is perfect. We had some
rain here last week, but the last few days have been
sunny and cool.
I am staying in a quieter country area outside of
Manchester and there are no distractions for me. Just
training, eating and sleeping. I have my team around me
and everyone is feeling very positive about the fight
with Ricky Hatton. I feel so great because I have not
competed in Europe for so many years. I am so excited to
be here and cannot wait to step in the ring and show all
my skills to the great fans in England.
I have decided to maintain my normal training routine
and not train at 2am. Right now, I am very comfortable
for what I am doing and I have had lots of discussions
with different advisers about it. One bit of advice I
have got is if I am 100 percent ready and prepare really
hard and am in good condition, I do not need to change
anything really because when it comes to the day of the
fight, you are going to be ready. If you train at 2am in
the morning every single day, it is like a night shift,
you are going to get tired eventually.
Many people make a point of my age for this fight, but
it is not a concern to me. I am 35 and I am fresh. I am
very confident because I am much better now at 35 than I
was at 25. I could destroy the 25 year-old Kostya Tszyu
right now with the 35 year-old Kostya Tszyu. That is how
confident I am.

The formidable Duva Boxing
stable of fighters continued its steamroll through the
ranks of professional boxing on Friday, as two of its
promising young contenders scored impressive victories.
At Club Cinema in Pompano Beach, Florida, electrifying
junior welterweight sharpshooter Kendall "Rated R" Holt,
19-1 (12), took the WBO Intercontinental Championship
with 12-round decision victory over former world title
challenger Jaime Rangel, 30-8-1(26).
Holt overcame some early adversity to put on a boxing
clinic for the fans in attendance and the nationwide
viewers watching ESPN2's Friday Night Fights. The New
Jersey phenomenon flashed his brilliant combinations and
dazzling speed as he dominated more and more with every
passing round, nearly knocking Rangel out several times.

The long awaited clash between Scotland’s' WBO
Featherweight king Scott Harrison and Manchester's
Michael Brodie is almost upon us. Billed as 'The
Battle Of Britain', this fight
has been eagerly awaited for over a year now and in
that time both fighters have changed dramatically.
Brodie put up a tremendous fight in his first battle
with Injin Chi for the WBC championship
last October but had to settle for a controversial
draw. The Manchester man was stopped in 7
during the rematch last April, ceding the WBC crown
to the Korean brawler.

It's just a week or so away to the fight
now and I thought a short message about
me preparation would go down well.
Every time I have gone into training for
each fight, I feel that I have improved
and been getting better and better and
none more so than this one. I'm
stronger, fitter, faster, and smarter
and I have made the weight easier than
ever.
I feel more powerful, I have lifted
considerably more weights than normal
and I think I feel the way I do simply
because my diet has been better. I've
been able to eat like a pig and what a
difference its made.
Sparring has been perfect, with no
injuries, and I think this fight has
come at the right moment. I'm the
underdog and rightly so. Believe me, if
Kostya beats me, I will be the first to
shake his hand, as you all probably
know.
But I have always said that I believe I
can be number one and on June 5th, I
will. I have no doubt that this is the
chance I deserve and all you loyal fans
have had to wait too long for this
moment and now that it's here you're
gonna see exactly what I can do.

former Featherweight Champ Jorge "Maramero" Paez who
was sitting with his trainer Capatio in Media row..
When asked how he was doing Paez said, "Maybe one
for fight for me, with Chavez (Julio Cesar Sr.),
maybe!" His trainer nodded and smiled in the
affirmative!
When asked about the proposed
fight Bob Arum said that he did not want to
speculate on future bouts.
Translated, look for Chavez and
Paez to take to the ring in a border town near you!
Arum was not at a loss for words
when asked about returning to Los Angeles with
another big card. " I dont know, you'll have to ask
the L.A. Times, we won't get permission from them
unless we charge $1000 a seat!"

I have to admit I was not very excited about the
scheduled Main Event for tonight’s Top Rank
promoted card that was going to be held at Staples
Center and aired by Showtime PPV. It’s not that I was
not a big Chavez fan, because I was. That’s a past tense
was. When Julio was going through the lightweight ranks
with the greatest of ease, I was without question one of
his most ardent supporters! But somewhere around his
second loss to De La Hoya, all the skeletons started to
come out of his closet. The stories of drinking and
womanizing played a big part in me jumping off his
bandwagon faster than Laker fans where ripping those
ridiculous banners off the sides of their cars this
year. His loss to Willie Wise didn’t help matters and my
memories of The Great J.C. Chavez started to become like
baseball fans memories of an Over The Hill Willie Mays
stumbling around the outfield in a New York Mets
uniform.

Chavez' days in the ring are officially over (again) as
the 3rd supposed final fight of his career looks to be
the truly LAST. Chavez won a unanimous decision over
Ivan Robinson, and fans at the STAPLES Center in Los
Angeles had the privilege to see Chavez in action one
last time.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr made quick work in his fight with
a 42 second, 1st round stoppage over Adam Wynant. Wynant
had been inactive since January 2004!
Jesus Chavez took
a split decision over Carlos Hernandez in exactly what
was expected, a back and forth brawl. The 117-111 score
for Jesus really took away at just how close and good
this fight really was.
Rafael Marquez
retained his IBF Bantamweight title with a unanimous
decision over tough Ricardo Vargas in what was another
back and forth action packed fight.
Brian Viloria sent Ruben Contreras to the hospital who
is now in critical condition after a tracheotomy was
preformed to help him breath. Ruben turned his back in
the 6th round and complained of a cut inside his mouth.
He collapsed on the floor outside the ring and went into
convulsion and was taken out on a stretcher. One must
really complain about the opportunity given to a 9-16-3
fighter as Ruben was to face an undefeated Viloria.

Stuttgart/Germany - What a bad surprise for his 33rd
birthday. US boy Lance Whitaker lost the WBO
Heavyweight elimination fight against German Luan
Krasniqi (34) by KO in round six – just minutes
before midnight and his birthday.
European champion Luan Krasniqi (28-1-1) is now
after his 13th KO official challenger of
WBO-Champ Lamon Brewster. The 34 year old Krasniqi
could be the first German Heavyweight champion after
glorious legend Max Schmeling who died in February.
The
fight against Lamon Brewster is scheduled for the 28th
of September, the day Max Schmeling would have
turned 100 years.
Krasniqi (6-3 feet and 224.9 lbs) smaller and
lighter than Lance “Mount” Whitaker (6-8 feet, 253.5
lbs) started powerful. US boy Whitaker was really
surprised by the heavy and quick attacks of Krasniqi.
4500
fans in the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer arena near
Krasniqi’s hometown Rottweil were thrilled about
“their” boy fighting for his first opportunity of
getting a title shot.
Krasniqi stayed out of Whitaker’s reach and came
forward with quick left-right combinations. The
first three rounds Krasniqi dominated with his jab.
Then added three hard right hands at Whitaker's
head. Said Krasniqi: “I fought a really intelligent
fight and went along with the plan my coach Torsten
Schmitz had prepared.”
Whitaker's left eye was swollen after round four and
he found now way to hurt the German. Only round five
was closer, but Whitaker lost even this round. He
also had huge problems with the heat in the ring.
The indoor temperature was about 95F - too much for
the “Mount”.
In
round six Krasniqi finished the American with a
heavy right hand to Whitaker’s ear. Lance went to
the canvas after 2:33 minutes.
A
surprising end for Whitaker who came to Germany with
“motivator” Steve “Crocodile” Fitch and proposed to
knock out Krasniqi within the first three rounds.
“Big mouth” Whitaker: “I was well prepared and have
trained really hard, but Luan was in better shape
today. I have no excuses. Now I have to go back to
my gym and train real hard.”
The
German is now waiting for his biggest fight.
Krasniqi happy: ”This was probably my best fight
ever. Now I am ready for the title shot.”
He
dedicated his victory to Max Schmeling. Both met in
2002. Krasniqi: “I had to promise Max to take the
Heavyweight belt back to Germany. Now I can fulfill
this on his birthday…”

Tensions ran high
today in Stuttgart, Germany as Heavyweight contenders
Lance Whitaker and Luan Krasniqi weighed in for
Saturday’s WBO title elimination bout.
“I’m gonna knock him out today, I’m not gonna wait ‘til
tomorrow,” said Whitaker following a heated exchange
between the two heavyweights, which was touched off when
the no-nonsense Whitaker declined a handshake from
Krasniqi after the ritual ‘Stare Down’ for
photographers. The Germany-based Yugoslavian responded
by pushing the 6-8 Californian, touching off a scuffle
that was eventually broken up by members of Team
Whitaker and security.
Needless to say, both fighters are primed and ready for
Saturday’s showdown at the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle
in Stuttgart, which will determine the mandatory
challenger for WBO Heavyweight Champion Lamon Brewster.
Whitaker weighed in at a ready 253.5 pounds; Krasniqi
weighed in at 224.9 pounds.

Lion of Culiacan,” Julio Caesar Chavez will bid fond
adieu to his adoring fans this Saturday at the Los
Angeles Staples Center. He will face ring veteran Ivan
Robinson, whose claim to fame is his two 1998
back-to-back wins over now reigning WBC Super
Lightweight Champion Arturo “Thunder” Gatti. Ivan’s
track record indicates that his best days are far behind
him. In his last eleven fights, he has won three, lost
six, with 2 draws. His overall record reads: 32 wins, 9
losses with 12 KO’s and 2 draws. His fight with Julio
could very well be his swan song from boxing.
In comparison, Julio’s last eleven fights are a little
better; he’s won seven, lost three with one draw. His
overall record is quite impressive. Julio has had 107
fights, losing 5, 2 draws, with 87 coming by way of
knockout.
This fight will have absolutely no bearing in any of the
rankings. It will be Julio’s way of saying thank you
for all of the wonderful fan adoration he has received
over his great boxing career.

civic pride, actually I should say not usually
prone to outbursts of civic pride but there is one fight
next weekend that has really caught my attention.
Wherever I go in my hometown, when I speak to my friends
and family a single question pops up…”Do You Think
Brodie can do it this Time?”
Over in the States you would be excused for thinking
that Hatton is Manchester’s favorite son but, and
without going too far into a geography lesson, to an
extent Hatton is representative of the outlying areas
that form Greater Manchester. On the other hand
Michael Brodie represents the area of North
Manchester which in turn is indicative of true inner
city Manchester. Brodie may bring less paying customers
to the MEN arena than Hatton but his name is on many of
our lips leading up to his challenge for Harrison’s WBO
Featherweight crown. Brodie grew up in the Manchester I
know, Hatton did not; many of us talk of Hatton and his
chances with optimism but also with a dismissive air.
Brodie on the other hand is in a truly competitive fight
and one he can win, in this desire to win he has the
support of much of Manchester because Brodie is truly
deserving of a title win.

Oakey Challenges Haymer for the English Title |

In every endeavor one labors towards, be it sports
or business or just the game of life, success is the
great equalizer. When the New York Yankees are
winning one World Series after another, no one gets
too worked up about issues behind the scenes. When a
large corporation steadily increases shareholder
value year after year, no one hires auditors to
delve deep into the company finances.
Success was in abundance for light heavyweight Tony
Oakey, who challenges Peter Haymer for the English
title on Friday night at Portsmouth's Mountbatten
Centre, well up until the fall of 2003. The boxer
from Havant, England was a local hero as an amateur
and as a professional, Oakey had built upon that
support by winning first the Commonwealth and then
the WBU Light Heavyweight titles, defending latter
successfully three times. In seventeen contests, the
Portsmouth area man had never been struck with the
sharp edged whip of defeat.

DiBella Signs
Heavyweight Fres Oquendo |

DiBella Entertainment has signed heavyweight contender
Fres Oquendo to an exclusive promotional agreement, it
was announced today by DBE president Lou DiBella.
Oquendo is rated #9 in The Ring Magazine
heavyweight rankings. A Chicago native of Puerto Rican
heritage, he boasts a 24-3 career mark, including 15
victories by way of knockout. The "Big O" captured his
first 22 career fights, turning back the likes of David
Izon, a third round TKO at the Javits Center which
vaulted Fres to leading contender-status, as well as
scores over Obed Sullivan, Maurice Harris and Cliff
Etienne.
His only three career setbacks came at the hands of
leading heavyweights David Tua, Chris Byrd and John
Ruiz. The Byrd loss was a controversial, disputed
12-round decision in an IBF world heavyweight
championship fight on September 20, 2003 at Mohegan Sun.
"Fres is one of the most talented heavyweights in the
world, and is ready to make another run at the world
heavyweight championship," said DiBella. "He is one of
the top Latino fighters of his generation, and worthy of
another chance at the heavyweight title."
He is trained by Pedro Bonilla and managed by Jose
Ramos.

Two-time world jr. middleweight champion Fernando
Vargas will battle WBC Jr. Middleweight Champion
Javier Castillejo on August 20 at the AllState Arena
in Chicago, IL, it was announced today by Main
Events CEO Kathy Duva. In the 12 round co-feature
bout, undefeated WBC/IBF #1 ranked Featherweight
contender Rocky Juarez vies for his first world
title when he challenges WBC Featherweight Champion
In Jin Chi in a potential “Fight of the Year”
candidate. Both bouts will be broadcast live on
HBO.
“The contract is completed and we are happy to
announce this great fight,” said Duva.
The WBC has announced that unless Javier Castillejo
accepts a deal from Don King Productions, Inc. to
fight Ricardo Mayorga, he will be stripped of his
title. Castillejo and Fernando Vargas have asserted
that Mayorga is not a proper mandatory opponent.
Both have also stated that although they would
prefer to receive the WBC sanction, in the interest
of moving forward with the event’s promotion the
sanction will be required for the bout to take
place. Vargas has filed for arbitration on the
matter before the Association of Boxing Commissions.
“Javier Castillejo is a champion with or without
the WBC belt,” said Duva. “We believe that the
designation of Mayorga as a mandatory opponent was
improper for the following reasons: Mayorga did not
win a mandatory eliminator, as the WBC rules
require; he was knocked out in his last bout; he
has lost two of his three last bouts; and he failed
to make weight the only time in his career he was
scheduled to fight at 154 lbs. However you slice it
we believe Mayorga is not a legitimate mandatory
under the WBC Rules and that Castillejo should be
allowed to make an optional defense against Vargas.”

Roman Greenberg invades

Hot heavyweight
prospect Roman Greenberg (18-0, 13 KOs) headlines a June
11th pro boxing show at the Plaza Hotel and Casino in
Las Vegas, promoted by Guilty Boxing in association with
Fight Academy, Infox Promotions and World Promotions.
Unbeaten powerhouse Greenberg, fighting out of England
via Israel, is a gifted, 6-3 sharpshooter. The
22-year-old boxer faces Josh “The Griz” Gutcher (17-3,
13 KOs), of Des Moines (IA), in the 10-round main event.
“Greenberg is a highly-touted, popular up-and-coming
fighter who’ll be tested by Josh Gutcher,” Guilty vice
president Jay Hassman said. “We have a Ukrainian
invasion on this card. The co-feature promises to be
very entertaining and we have competitive supportive
bouts.”
Greenberg holds a victory against Julius Francis
(WDEC10, Dec. 10, 2004), who defeated Mike Tyson victor
Danny Williams and also has been in the ring against
some of the world’s best heavyweights including Tyson,
Vitali Klitschko, John Ruiz, Zeljko Mavrovic, Oleg
Maskaev and Sinan Samil Sam.
Ukrainian light heavyweight champion Yuri Barash’yan
(16-2, 11 KOs), rated No. 15 by the European Boxing
Union, takes on dangerous Jesus Ruis (18-4, 16 KOs), of
Las Vegas, in a sensational 10-round co-feature.
The undercard bouts include Ukrainanian light
heavyweights Viatcheslav Uzelkov (3-0, 3 KOs) versus
Nakhnud Otzhanov (3-1, 3 KOs), unbeaten Ukrainaian super
middleweight Viktor Zinoviev (5-0, 3 KOs) against Moses
Matovu, of Las Vegas, and three other bouts. All
fighters and matches are subject to change.

Why Hatton Can Shock Tszyu |

As the big fight draws closer, opinions could not be
more divided on the outcome of this summer's epic
showdown between Manchester's undefeated star Ricky "The
Hitman" Hatton and the number one light welterweight in
the world, Kostya Tszyu. It will be a lion's den that
Tszyu will enter on June the 4th, performing in front of
22,000 Hatton fans at the MEN Arena in Manchester. The
bout is for Tszyu's IBF belt, but more importantly for
Hatton is the Russian's worldwide recognition as one of
the best pound for pound fighters in the world today.
Tszyu has proven time and time again that he is the best
light welterweight in the world. Hatton has yet to
convince everyone, especially in the US, that he even
deserves world class status despite being ranked number
one by the IBF and previously so by the WBO, all the
while remaining undefeated in 38 fights.
