Announce the Birth of their Son
It is with great joy that we share the arrival of
our long awaited gift from God. Oscar Gabriel arrived December
29 and weighed in at 9 pounds 7 ounces and measured 21 1/2
inches. We thank God that we are all healthy. We are now
enjoying this moment with our family as we begin this new
journey. In this season, we wish everyone much happiness and
blessings just like we are enjoying ourselves with our Son.

Briggs Fighting Koval, Chasing Peter
Comebacking former linear heavyweight champion
Shannon Briggs, 45-4-1 (39 KOs), has written a poem to continue
his holiday season pursuit of fellow contender Samuel Peter.
Although the fight with Peter is rumored to already be in the
works, Briggs, who is scheduled to face Ohio’s Chris Koval, 23-2
(18 KOs), for the USBA Heavyweight Championship on January 27 at
the Miccosukee Resort & Gaming, Miami, Florida, says he will
continue to goad the “Nigerian Nightmare” until he has no choice
but to get in the ring. On Christmas Eve, Briggs and promoters
Ckrush Sports and Entertainment released a photo of himself with
the caption “all I want for Christmas is Sam Peter’s two front
teeth.”

Heavyweight contender Ruslan Chagaev
to face Rob Calloway
Universum’s unbeaten heavyweight Ruslan Chagaev,
former amateur world champion and known as the "White Tyson",
will face the All-American Prizefighter Rob Calloway for ten or
less rounds in Munich on January 7, 2006. Chagaev is originally
from Uzbekistan and fights out of Hamburg, Germany. He is
trained by Michael Timm, who also takes care of Felix Sturm and
world champions Sergej Dzindziruk (WBO Super welterweight) and
Wladimir Sidorenko (WBA Bantamweight). Chagaev is one of the
most promising fighters among future contenders of the
heavyweight crown. He is WBA #15 and WBO #9. Click

Promoter Joe DeGuardia of Joe DeGuardia’s Star
Boxing has inked former light heavyweight champion Montell “Ice”
Griffin, 47-6 (30 KOs), to a promotional contract.
In his impressive 12-year career, the 35-year-old Griffin was
the first to score a victory over Roy Jones Jr. (via DQ 9) and
holds a pair of wins over James “Lights Out” Toney. He remains a
serious threat in the 175-lb class, dropping a pair of
controversial IBF title elimination fights to Rico Hoye (hotly
disputed decision) and Julio Gonzalez (TD 6, due to a head butt)
in the past fifteen months.

Star Boxing Signs Derrick "Smoke" Gainer
Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing, Inc. announced today
that it has signed former world champion Derrick “Smoke” Gainer
to a promotional contract.
Pensacola, Florida’s Gainer has compiled a record of 39-7-1,
with 24 KO’s over 15 years as a professional and is looking to
revitalize his career, become more active and land another title
shot. “I believe in Joe and Joe believes in me, so it should be
a good relationship. Plus, I feel he made me a fair offer,” said
Gainer of the signing.

corner. With the exit of Norman "Stoney" Stone, one would think
that "The Quiet man" has changed guard in his corner. But if you
read the end of the report it clearly says, "Feliz Dia de los
Inocentes"... literally translated it means "Happy Day of the
Innocents". This day is the equivalent of "April Fools" so in
other words, the addition of the Trinidad's in Ruiz's corner is

My Wishes For The New Year

I don't want much, I tell you. All I want is a few things, which
I don't think are too much to ask for.
What I want is for the judging to get better. If the boxers
can't knock each other out inside of 10 or 12 rounds, and it HAS
to go to the scorecards, than please let the judges have common
sense. Let them be watching the SAME fight everyone else is
watching. Stop making decisions that make you say, "wow, Roy
Jones Jr. got off LIGHT in the Olympics". Click

Oscar De La Hoya went out of his way to display his new found
friend Ricky Hatton to the media as he presented Hatton with the
prestigious Ring Magazine Belt. At the time literally no one but
Boxing2005 found that a worthy piece of news and we were all

World News. Tarver is a smart businessman and he knows that
there is more money in a fight with Hopkins than there is with
Tyson. Tyson is so shot he should go to Winchester for a
sponsorship. Listening to the interview after his fight with
McBride tells the story completely, Mike does not have it in his
heart anymore. He even said he wishes there was a way for
everyone to get their money back. The fight with McBride was a
bomb and now a fight with Tarver would be a bigger bomb. Tarver
is one of the elite currently in the fight game and he should
not consider lowering himself to fighting a sideshow fight with
Tyson. It doesn’t make dollars so it doesn’t make sense!

John Ruiz’ Manager Norman Stone Retires
Colorful boxing manager Norman “Stoney” Stone
today announced his retirement from his Massachusetts home.
Stone had been two-time world heavyweight champion John “The
Quietman” Ruiz’ manager and cutman for the past 20 years dating
back to Ruiz’ amateur days.
“I’m done,” Stone said. “I’m tired of boxing and last week’s bad
decision was the last straw (Ruiz lost a controversial 12-round
majority decision to Nicolay Valuev in Berlin for the WBA
title). I’m going to relax with my family and spend a lot of
time with my two little grandchildren. I’ll always support
Johnny. Even in retirement I’ll be covering his back. I’m sorry
if my actions sometimes upset people, but I always had John’s
best interests at heart. It was a great ride.”

Jermain Taylor Says "It's Always
Better To Give Then To Receive"
It's the most wonderful time of the year and the
holiday spirit is in the air. DiBella Entertainment's Undisputed
Middleweight World Champion Jermain Taylor (25-0, 17 KO's)
continues to show he is a champion both inside and outside of
the ring. Proving once again that a more appropriate nickname
for him might be "Good Intentions" rather than his ring moniker
of "Bad Intentions", Taylor has generously donated proceeds
received in connection with the sale of his autographed gloves

Super Middleweight Division Is The Prize

As we have already reported, Librado Andrade and Otis Grant
might face off for the number one and mandatory position in the
WBC Super Middleweight Division to take on Champion Marcus
Beyer. The two were set to square off once before but Grant had
to pull out because of an abdominal tear that needed to be
surgically repaired.
The fight is set to take place somewhere between the months of
March and April, with Gym Promotions who were represented by
Yvon Michel winning the purse bid at a amount of $161,500, a bid
that topped another bid from Andrade's promotion company Golden
Boy.

The first Saturday of every month belongs to
SHOWTIME, and 2006 promises to be no different for America’s No.
1 boxing network, now in its 20th year on the air. Following a

Don King Wishes to Promote Boxing Match in Iraq
Legendary promoter Don King said he would like to
host a morale-boosting boxing exhibition in Iraq featuring world
champion boxers he represents. King made his comments to CNN’s
Wolf Blitzer while appearing on The Situation Room last week.
Major General Thomas R. Turner II of the U.S. Army’s 101st
Airborne Division told King earlier this year he would welcome
such an event.
“There are many things that make a unit successful in combat,”
Turner said. “They need good equipment, the right number of
people and good training. The army does that very well but the
solider also needs to know that the American people support them
and Don King has done that.”

ranked Otis Grant, Canada, and number two ranked Librado

Promotions, produced an event that featured culinary
delights, live music, and yes, boxing!
Gustavo Torales v. George Moreno – 4 rounds,
Welterweights
In the main event, Santa Ana based welterweight George
Moreno, 3-10-1, looked more bodybuilder than boxer in
losing a unanimous decision to Gustavo Torales who
improved to 4 -1. Torales bloodied Moreno’s nose moments
before scoring a flash knockdown in the fourth round of
a fight he had already won.
