Jermain Taylor Is “Straight Right,”
In Middleweight Contention |
|
By Carlos Cordoba
Photos: William Trillo
Former undisputed middleweight champion
Jermain Taylor 29-4-1, 18KOs knocked out Jessie Nicklow
22-3-2, 8KOs in the eight round of the middleweight bout
to culminate a successful comeback. The scrap was the
main event of Showtime’s Sho-Box “The New Generation,”
hosted by Gary Shaw in association with DiBella
Entertainment at the Morongo Casino Resort and Spa in
Cabazon, CA. The action aired live on Showtime.
Jermain Taylor, 33, made a quite return onto the boxing
stage after more than two-years away from the fight
game. The Arkansas native began to work behind his left
stick. The former middleweight champ doubled up his
stick and followed through with menacing straight rights
or speedy left hooks as seen in round number three. He
continued to work into the following rounds showing
obvious signs of rust. His stick was working, but he
seemed to lack the timing to follow through and end the
show against an otherwise pedestrian and overmatched
fighter.

WBC On Chavez Jr. vs. Rubio |
|
Numerous media outlets have reported that WBC
middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will fight
Marco Antonio Rubio on February 4, 2012.
The governing WBC Rules and Regulations require a written formal
petition for the sanctioning of any official WBC bout before a
formal announcement takes place and ticket sales start. As of
this date, the WBC has not received any communication from any
promoter concerning a Chavez versus Rubio fight.
The WBC therefore does not endorse and disapproves any public
announcement or ticket sales suggesting that the WBC has
sanctioned the fight, or using the WBC name or trademarks until
there is full compliance with the WBC Rules and Regulations.

Lundy Responds To Williams' Threat |
|
Tired of being earmarked by the contenders in the
135-pound division, reigning North American Boxing Federation (NABF)
lightweight champion “Hammerin’” Hank Lundy has a direct
response to the challengers questioning his credentials,
specifically No. 2-ranked Dannie Williams, who threatened
Tuesday to “hurt” Lundy if the two should face one another in
2012.
“Everyone knows ‘Hammerin’’ Hank will fight anyone, anywhere at
anytime. This has to stop,” Lundy said. “I’ve proven myself time
and time again on the road. Now y’all have to come to me. I went
out to Chicago and knocked out the former world champ [David
Diaz on Aug. 9]. What more do I have to do to get respect? So,
if y’all aren’t coming to Philadelphia, Rhode Island, or
Connecticut to fight ‘Hammerin’’ Hank, then we don’t have a
fight. I’m tired of going into people’s backyards. It is what it
is.”

Dannie Williams Preparing To KO Hank Lundy

|
The most dangerous puncher in the lightweight
division, World Boxing Council ("WBC") Continental Americas
champion Dannie Williams, sooner rather than later, plans to add
the North American Boxing Federation ("NABF") belt to his
growing collection.
The NABF crown is presently worn by flashy Philadelphia boxer "Hammerin"

mandatory title defense against the top contender, No. 2 rated
Williams (No. 1 is unrated), but Williams' co-promoters, Rumble
Time Promotions and DiBella Entertainment, were unable to
successfully negotiate a deal with Lundy's promoter, Classic

Povetkin vs. Huck On Feb. 25 In Stuttgart |
|
Next years major boxing highlight has been
arranged: WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (34-1, 25 KOs)
will challenge the WBA heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin
(23-0, 16 KOs) in Stuttgarts Porsche-Arena on February 25, 2012.
Both rivals have now struck an agreement.
This will be the Heavyweight Fight of the Year without a doubt,
commented Kalle Sauerland. There will be more action in this
fight than we have seen in Heavyweight World Championship fights
in many years. Two real gladiators with both speed and power:
Huck has proven himself as the number one Cruiserweight in the
world with hands of steel; Povetkin as the most exciting
Heavyweight prospect seen since a young Tyson, and who last year
crushed Chagaev to realize his dream of becoming World Champion.
Speaking as a boxing fan who has missed big action heavyweight
championship fights the waiting is over!! I am not sure how long
the fight will last but this will be an absolute must-see!
