Julio Gonzalez Is Looking For Another Title Shot |

Pound4Pound.com sat down with former WBO Light Heavyweight
Champion Julio Gonzalez before his last day of sparring and got
his view of his upcoming battle against the always tough David
Telesco (29-4-1, 24 KO's) which will be featured on the
undercard of the biggest Light Heavy fight to come along in
years, that being Antonio Tarver vs. Glen Johnson.
"This fight is going to make me or break me.", says Gonzalez.
"The titles are vacant right now...but if I win I should be
placed in the top 5, so there should be a good chance for a
title shot after that."

Jr. bantamweight Gerson Guerrero (now 29-5, 22
KO's) scored a sixth round TKO over Jair Jimenez Friday night at
the Miccosukee Resort in Miami. Jimenez falls to 22-3-1 with 16
KO's.

|
Ebo “The Extreme Machine” Elder fought
courageously, with both eyes nearly closed due to swelling, to
knockout Courtney “Killer” Burton to retain his North American
Boxing Association Lightweight belt Friday on “ShoBox: The New
Generation.” Elder connected with a left quickly followed by a
right to send Burton tumbling to the canvas. Burton staggered to
his feet, eyes glazed, only to be caught with a straight left
that tossed him into the ropes, before his body slumped to the
canvas, ending the fight.
In the junior welterweight co-feature from Chumash Casino Resort
in Santa Ynez, Calif., “Mighty” Mike Arnaoutis registered a
third-round knockout over Jauquin Gallardo.

ON THIS DAY IN 1999, Javier Castillejo TKO’d Michael Rask
in the 7th round in the 3rd defense of his WBC
Light-Middleweight Title in Leganes, Spain.
In Pittsburgh, Pa.
Paul Spadafora TKO’d Renato Cornett in the 11th round to retain
his IBF Lightweight Title.
In 1994, Bernard Hopkins and Segundo Mercado fought to a
12 round Draw in Quito, Ecuador. Four months later “The
Executioner” would stop Mercado in the 7th round in Landover,
Maryland and win the IBF Middleweight title. Now after 10 years
and 19 successful defenses Hopkins retains this and the WBC, WBA
and WBO Titles.
Frankie Liles won a 12 round UD over Michael Nunn to retain the
WBA Super-Middleweight Title.
In Hamburg, Germany:
Darius Michalczewski KO’d Nestor Hippolito Giovannini in the
10th round to win the WBO Cruiserweight title.
In 1993, Juan Martin Coggi TKO’d Eder Gonzalez in the 7th
round to retain the WBA Light-Welterweight title in Tucaman,
Argentina.
In Minot, North Dakota:
Virgil Hill won a 12 round UD over Guy Waters to retain the WBA
Light-Heavyweight Title.

Brian "Hawaiian Punch" Viloria (15-0, 9 KO's) &
Angel Priolo (30-1, 20 KO's) went at with all
their heart and speed until the 7th round, when
Viloria hit Priolo with 2 left hooks to the body
followed by a right hand downstairs that stopped
the fighter in his tracks and put him down for
good at 54 seconds into the 7th.
Librado Andrade (20-0, 19 KO's) took on tough
journeyman Thomas Reid (33-13-1, 13 KO's) and
added the vacant WBC Latino Super Middleweight
Title to his already credited NABO and NABA
Titles after Andrade's pursuit of landing
combos. The ref had seen enough and brought
everything to a halt at 1:52 of round 4.

The Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles
plays host to HBO Latino's "Oscar De La Hoya Presents
Boxeo De Oro" once again, and once again Librado Andrade
(20-0, 14 KO's) and Enrique Ornelas(19-1, 13 KO's) will
be on the card. The last time we saw the brothers,
Librado won in spectacular fashion and Enrique lost, in
an equally spectacular knockout defeat.
Up until that night, both brothers were undefeated and
on their way to bigger and better things for the coming
years. But with the turn of events, the brothers have
separate agendas now, For Librado, it's all about
another victory that will surely put him in title
contention. For Enrique, it's time to get back on the

looks has helped him capture the hearts and minds of boxing fans
in his native Northern Ireland, as well as a growing number in
the United States, particularly on the East Coast. Duddy hasn’t
been fed a steady diet of tomato cans, either. Three of his last
four victims have been (10-4-1) Ken Hock and a pair of

This Saturday night, December 18, HBO will televise a twelve
round fight from the Staples Center in Los Angeles between
former WBC and former IBF Light heavyweight champions, Antonio
Tarver and Glenoffe Johnson. When Antonio refused to face his
WBC #1 mandatory challenger Paul Briggs, he did not wait to be
stripped of his WBC world title, he chose instead to relinquish
the crown; Johnson did likewise in refusing to face his #1 IBF
challenger Rico Hoye. Antonio and Glen both discarded their
titles in order to face one another in a much more lucrative,
appealing bout.

ON THIS DAY IN 2003, Mahyar Monshipour TKO’d Jairo
Tagliaferro in the 7th round to retain the WBA
Super-Bantamweight Title in Levallois, France.
In 2000, Mbulelo Botile KO’d Paul Ingle in the 12th round
to win the IBF Featherweight Title in Sheffield, England. It was
this bout in which Paul Ingle suffered life threatening brain
damage. His life was fortunately saved by surgery, however it of
course would end his ring career.
Mauricio Martinez KO’d Esham Pickering in the 1st round to
retain the WBO Bantamweight Title.
Joe Calzaghe TKO’d Richie Woodhall in the 10th round to retain
the WBO Super-Middleweight Title.
Daniel Santos KO’d Neil Sinclair in the 2nd round to retain the
WBO Welterweight Title.
In Karlsruhe, Germany:
Sven Ottke won a 12 round UD over Silvio Branco to retain the
IBF Super-Middleweight Title.

Tszyu Clears Up "Hatton Match Made" Rumors |

Speculation has been going back and forth and
back and forth, "it's on", "it's not on", "it's on", "it's not
on". Promoter Frank Warren says it on, then says its close to
being on, blah, blah, blah. Meanwhile, Kostya Tszyu, who is
trying to enjoy his Christmas vacation without thinking of a
possible next opponent until at least January, has made an open
letter to possibly clear things up . . . well, at least until
tomorrow when Warren says he's called Tszyu on the cell and has
gotten him to sign a contract via e-mail to fight Ricky Hatton
in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

Middleweight Latino Title Tomorrow Night |

Librado Andrade will square off against Thomas
Reid in tomorrow nights co-feature on HBO Latino at the Olympic
Auditorium in Los Angeles in a fight that the winner will become
WBC Super Middleweight Latino Champion.
Both Andrade and Reid weighed-in at the 168 limit earlier today.
Giorbis Barthelemy, opponent to Enrique Ornelas, came in over
weight, but both camps came to an agreement and the fight will
go on.

were being told that Willie was maimed, according to Stewart
some rumors even had him as dead! Willie wanted to assure

"Everyone need to know Andrade doesn't want a rematch with

John Ruiz retained the WBA Heavyweight title when he and former
Champion Evander Holyfield fought to a 12 round Draw.
In 2000, Davy Hilton won a 12 round SD over Dingaan
Thobela to win the WBC Super-Middleweight Title in Montreal,
Canada.
*NOTE, Hilton was stripped of this title after being convicted
of sex crimes.
In Madison, Wisconsin:
Eric Morel won a 12 round UD over Gilberto Keb Baas to retain
the WBA Flyweight Title.
In 1995, Arturo Gatti won a 12 round UD over Tracy Harris

the 4th round to retain the WBU Light-Welterweight Title in
Newcastle, England.
Joe Calzaghe TKO’d Tocker Pudwill in the 2nd round to retain the
WBO Super-Middleweight title.
In Atlantic City New Jersey:
Chris Byrd won a 12 round UD over Evander Holyfield to win the
Vacant IBF Heavyweight title.
In 1996, Riddick Bowe won on a DQ over Andrew Golota.
This fight was stopped in the 9th. This was the second of this
well known series. Bowe was down in 2nd and 5th; Golota was down
in 4th. Golota was once again clearly winning the fight and was
again disqualified for repeated low blows. Golota had 3 points
deducted.
In 1992, Carlos Gonzales TKO’d Rafael Ortiz in the 1st
round to retain the WBO Light-Welterweight title in Mexico City,
Mexico.
In 1991, Manning Galloway won a 12 round SD over Nika
Khumalo to retain the WBO Welterweight Title in Cape Town, South

flu and is unable to train. He will be rescheduled for early
2005.

Top Rank's newest prospect, Mike Alvarado of
Denver, will box on the Friday night card at the Dodge Arena in
Hidalgo, Texas. Alvarado, a junior welterweight, is 5-0 with 5
knockouts and this will be his debut with Top Rank. Alvarado is
scheduled for six rounds.

|
Fernando Montiel has come down with the stomach
flu and is off Thursday night's HBO Latino Card at the Olympic
Auditorium.
This fight was to have been the featured attraction on HBO
Latino's 'Boxeo De Oro' telecast. One possible scenario could be
Brian Viloria filling in for Montiel. Viloria was scheduled to
be on the Casmayor/Castillo undercard, but that fight fell out,
which leaves the 112 pounder available.

think quite a few of us might want to bid him
farewell after his less than impressive
performance last night. After being dubbed the
"Tyson-Killer", Danny Williams went from virtual
unknown to Heavyweight title contender,
literally overnight! I think it is now pretty
clear why Williams was an unknown commodity, and
it will surprise no one if he
returns to whatever rock it was that he climbed out from under.

test from former title holder Randall Bailey
(28-4, 27 KO's) in this one, and after the first
round, with 2 judges scoring it in favor of
Bailey, it looked as though Cotto was in for
a tough night, he caught a
few good shots and who knew what else the KO artist
might have in store for him.

In
a 10 round blood soaked war, Carlos "Famoso"
Hernandez (44-4-1,24 KO's) took a hard fought
split decision over Juan Carlos Ramirez (36-6,14
KO's). From round 2 on, the Super Lightweights
were covered with the blood of Famoso, who fell
victim to an "unintentional headbutt" right
away. From that point on the bout went back and
forth on the judges scorecards, it looked as
though just when one of the bloody fighters would gain an
advantage, the other would mount an attack and pull the momentum
back into his corner.

Joseph's University, successfully graduated to the big leagues
of professional boxing, blasting out James Daniel at 1:53 of
round one tonight, at the new Washington, D.C. Convention
Center. With his cousin, former world heavyweight champion
Terrible Tim Witherspoon, rooting him on with Chazz's parents,
Chazz scored his first knockdown before the first minute was
over with a strong left lead to Daniel's chin. Chazz finished
the job like an old pro, drilling Daniel with an overhand right

ON THIS DAY IN 1999, Bernard Hopkins won a 12 round UD
over Antwun Echols to retain the IBF Middleweight Title in
Miami, Florida.
In 1998, Juan Carlos Gomez KO’d Rodney Gordon in the 2nd
Round to retain the WBC Cruiserweight Title in Frankfort,
Germany.
Darius Michalczewski TKO’d Drake Thadzi in the 9th round to
retain the WBO Light-Heavyweight Title.
In Indio, California:
Nestor Garza won a 12 round UD over Enrique Sanchez to win the
WBA Super-Bantamweight Title .
And in Atlantic City, New Jersey:
Fernando Vargas TKO’d Yory Boy Campas in the 8th round to win
the IBF Light-Middleweight Title.
In 1997, Erik Morales TKO’d John Lowey in the 7th round
to retain the WBC Super-Bantamweight Title in Tijuana, Mexico.

Klitschko Returns From Hospital For Post Fight Comments; Cotto
& Famoso Speak With Us Too |

With both hands wrapped up in gauze, Klitschko, who just had
fought a few hours prior, and retained his belt, addressed the
media who were diligent enough to wait until Vitali returned
from the hospital after getting some precautionary X-rays on the
hands that dealt out so much damage to the face and head of the
fallen foe, Danny Williams. Williams also was rushed to the
hospital and did not attend the post fight press conference. The
injuries he received were much more severe and a full CAT Scan
was required to make sure the Brit was in no risk of bigger
problems!
"I feel good.", said Vitali. "I did not take a lot of punches in
the fight. Danny Williams did never hurt me. I tried to finish
him in the first round, but Danny Williams showed a lot of heart
and came back. I was very surprised at how many punches he
took."

Hatton Warms Up For Tszyu By Demolishing Oliveira |

British junior welter contender Ricky Hatton keep alive his
unbeaten record
and his dream of challenging IBF champ Kostya Tszyu by becoming
the first
man to stop veteran American "Sucra" Ray Oliveira at London's
ExCel arena. For Hatton, who upped his log to 38-0 with 28
opponents stopped, it is to be hoped that 2005 will finally
deliver the genuine title shot his talents deserve.

Klitschko Smashes Way Overmatched Williams |

Vitali Klitschko keeps his WBC belt by
knocking out 15 minutes of famer Danny Williams.
Klitschko knocked Williams down once in the 1st round,
then went en route to an easy win over Williams finally
dropping him for the 4th time in the 8th round. Williams
sloppy style offered nothing but a few wild shots at
times, but his defense was perfect to take huge
uppercuts by Vitali, and a huge right hand that ended
the matter.

Cotto Dominates Bailey |
|
WBO 140 pound champ, Miguel Cotto answered a lot
of questions tonight by taking it to KO artist Randall Bailey.
In a spectacular display of skill and power Cotto went through
Bailey and as far as Pound4Pound.com is concerned, he made the
former champ quit in corner at 1:39 of round 6.

Do you feel that you are following in the footsteps of Lennox
Lewis and that you must take the belt back to England?
Yes, definitely! After he retired, many fans felt there was no
one to bring the belt back to Britain, but after my great
victory over Tyson, they are putting their hoped in me, and I am
not going to disappoint them, I am going to bring the belt back
to Great Britain.

New NABF Champion Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero |

With an electrifying performance on DEC, 9th
2004, Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero captures the NABF
featherweight Title with a forth round KO over Cesar Figueroa at
the Pechanga Resort and Casino. "The Ghost" dazzled the crowd
with his superior defensive skills and powerful punches. It was
a straight left to the face that send Figueroa to the canvass in
dramatic fashion. As the ref let the fight continue, "The Ghost"
finished him off with a vicious uppercut, and the champ was down
for good. The Crowd went crazy as "The Ghost" signed autographs
for the fans after the fight.
When asked what motivated him the most about this fight, Robert
said
"Jesus Christ and the opportunity to glorify his Name"

Gregorio Vargas in a non-title bout in Los Angeles, California.
In July of 2004 Anchondo won the WBO Super-Featherweight Title.
In 1999, Vitali Klitschko TKO’d Obed Sullivan in the 10th
round toretain the WBO Heavyweight Title in Alsterdorf, Germany.
Juan Carlos Gomez KO’d Napolean Tagoe in the 9th round to retain
the WBC Cruiserweight Title.
Stipe Drews TKO’d Jaroslav Cepicky in the 4th round of a
Non-Title bout.
In Tunica Mississippi:
Byron Mitchell and Bruno Girard fought to a 12 round Draw,
Mitchell retains WBA Super-Middleweight Title.

weigh-in for their upcoming WBO World Junior
Welterweight championship fight this coming Saturday at
Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. Cotto, 21-0 with 17
knockouts, will make the first defense of his WBO world
junior welterweight title against Bailey who is 28-4
with 17 knockouts and a former champion. Cotto vs.
Bailey is the featured undercard bout on the Vitali
Klitschko vs. Danny Williams world heavyweight

"Retire Maker" Train Rolls On |

Vitali Klitschko is referring to himself as the “Retire Maker,”
he feels he is responsible for sending Lennox Lewis into
retirement after their brutal fight for Lennox’s heavyweight
title. After knocking out WBO Champion Herbie Hide in the second
round of their title fight, Vitali has said that he is the
reason no one ever heard of Herbie Hide again. Corrie Sanders
announced his retirement after his losing fight against the big
Ukrainian. Corrie remained retired until just recently when he
signed for a comeback fight. Vitali does make a valid point
although retiring Mike Tyson conqueror Danny Williams may be an
entirely different story.
