T’was the night before New Years, yes that’s what I said,
There’s no reason to check as to what you just read.
I know I messed up and admit I am late,
But I’d like to continue, so don’t get irate.
Right now there’s a battle, a fight that is odd.
Does Floyd want to fight, or is that a facade?
Mayweather and Pacman might not meet at all,
So maybe we won’t get to see the big brawl.
Some, they blame Manny for not taking the test,
Say he’s ducking and diving, ignoring the request.
But others say Mayweather and all of his camp
Are afraid of Pacman, that they’re scared of the champ.

On "Turf Wars", Jan. 15 In Philadelphia |
|
On Friday night, January 15th, the first big
boxing event of 2010 will take place as Greg Robinson’s Power
Promotions in association with River Edge Beverage Company
presents “Turf Wars” that will take place at The Arena in South
Philadelphia.
In the main event, USBA Jr. Middleweight champion, Derek “Pooh”
Ennis will take part in a ten round non-title fight as he
battles veteran Edwin Vazquez.

ON THIS DAY IN 1980, Bangkok, Thailand:
Khaosai Galaxy KO’d Sangsung
Sithkempet in the 2nd round of a non-title bout. Galaxy’s 2nd pro bout.
1956, New York:
Carlos Ortiz won a 10 round decision
over Gale Kerwin in a non-title bout. Carlos
Ortiz (61-7-1) then 20 years old and in his 2nd year
fighting professionally would go on to become Jr
Welterweight Champion and Lightweight Champion. Ortiz is
considered one of the “greats” of the Lightweight
Division. Reigning twice 1962-65 and 1965-68.
1952, Coral Gables, Florida:
Danny Nardico TKO’d Jake LaMotta in the
8th round. Lamotta’s corner stopped this fight after LaMotta was down in the 7th. This
fight was of course near the end of Hall of Famer
LaMotta’s career.
1941, Vichy, France:
Marcel Cerdan KO’d Robert Seidel in the
3rd round of a non-title bout. Marcel Cerdan (106-4-0) Middleweight Champion
from 1948-49, and Hall of Famer, was one of Europes
greatest fighters in the 30’s and 40’s.

Pacquiao Files Federal Defamation Lawsuit Against Mayweathers,
Oscar De La Hoya, & Richard Schaefer |

On December 30, 2009, pound-4-pound boxing
champion Manny Pacquiao filed a lawsuit in Nevada federal court
against Floyd Mayweather, Jr., Floyd Mayweather, Sr., Roger
Mayweather, Mayweather Promotions, LLC, and Golden Boy
Promotions executives Oscar de la Hoya, and Richard Schaefer for
making false and defamatory statements accusing Pacquiao of
taking performance-enhancing drugs. The complaint is attached.
The lawsuit claims the Mayweathers, de la Hoya, and Schaefer
knew that Pacquiao has never taken performance-enhancing drugs,
knew their statements were false, but made them anyway out of
"ill-will, spite, malice, revenge, and envy."

As of Wednesday morning at 1 pm pst all remains
unresolved in the Manny vs. Floyd saga.
Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather’s adviser, said “the time is coming”
when both parties will have to head in opposite directions and
abandon a Mayweather-Pacquiao proposal now only 2 1/2 months
away. “The clock is ticking,” Ellerbe said today. “It’ll get
resolved, one way or another. Either he (Pacquiao) is going to
step up to the plate or he isn’t.” It ain’t over ’til it’s
over.”
Meanwhile news out of Manny's camp changes a bit as the focus
for a new opponent seems to have shifted.
The L.A. Times quoted Arum as saying that both camps’ positions
“are hardening,” and it may be best to revisit
Mayweather-Pacquiao for later next year, although it said he
acknowledged a remote possibility that those positions could
soften. Arum also said he anticipates switching focus to
negotiations for Pacquiao to fight Yuri Foreman, the World
Boxing Association super welterweight title-holder whom he also
promotes.

Miranda Flu KO's Jan Fight With Stieglitz,
But Says He's Ready For Bute In April |
|
Edison Miranda's January bout with WBO Super
Middleweight Champion Robert Stieglitz was cancelled after a
lengthy flu sickness suffered by Miranda that lasted over two
weeks. Miranda was unable to prepare properly and had no choice
but to call the fight off. Miranda said he hopes to have one
more fight before fighting for a title. IBF Champion Lucian Bute
is looking for an opponent to fill his April fight date and
Miranda said he received the call and will be ready and more
than willing to fill that role. "I will knock Bute out!",
promises Miranda.

Munroe Gets WBC Title Final Eliminator |
|
RENDALL MUNROE will meet Mexican Victor Terrazas
in a final eliminator for the WBC world super-bantamweight
title.
Leicester southpaw Munroe expects the battle for the right to
challenge for Toshiaki Nishioka's crown to take place in next
February or March.
The WBC have mandated the fight and the fighter's promoters HG
Boxing and Frank Maloney, who handles Munroe can have private
negotiations until January 14.

|
Undefeated Brazilian middleweight “Chairman of
the Board” Michael Oliveira (11-0, 9 KOs), 8-0 (6 KOs) in 2009,
established himself as one of the top prospects to watch in
2010.
The 19-year-old Oliveira, living in Miami and attending Miami
Dade Community College, went into 2009 with three first-round
knockout wins in his first three pro fights. The hard-punching
teenager fought all over this past year, starting with another
first-round knockout of Michael Bradley in Indianapolis,
followed by a win by 4-round decision versus Vladmir Laguna in
Miami, and then a second-round technical knockout of Guy Packer
in Grand Rapids (MI).

This New Years Day instead of taking a well
deserved break from training, former IBF Cruiserweight Champion
of the World, Steve 'USS' Cunningham will instead be lacing up
his running shoes to take part in the AngerWear sponsored
Stanley's Dream 5K run in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
Steve, who is passionate in his belief of helping others less
fortunate than himself, jumped at the opportunity to help raise
funds for Stanley's Dream, a fund for the Chester County
Foundation, which provides college scholarships to graduating
seniors and supports childhood brain cancer research grants to

After more than it's fair share of twists and
turns in the Welterweight Champion Manny
Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. it appears
that Bob Arum is going to make good on his "take
it or leave it" offer he made this weekend when
he told Team Mayweather to accept his compromise
or the fight is off.
At 11:51 PM PST on Monday night there has been
no acceptance by Team Mayweather reported. In
fact the only word from Mayweather's side comes
from Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather
Promotions who said that there was no question
of accepting that proposal. "Random is random.
We are not backing off and the ball is in their
court."

Nevada Orders Testing For Pacquiao & Mayweather
And They Mean Get It Done NOW! |

As reported by The Los Angeles Times at 3:36 pm
Monday afternoon, the chairman of the Nevada State Athletic
Commission has ordered Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
to take immediate out-of-competition urine tests.
Nevada Athletic Commission Chairman Pat Lundvall ordered
Executive Director Keith Kizer to direct Mayweather and Pacquiao
to accredited drug-testing labs in the United States and
Philippines, respectively, for tests that must be completed by
Wednesday, Kizer told The Times.

If all the news about fighters scuffling over
drug tests instead of fighting in the ring has got you down, and
you think 2010 is getting off on the wrong foot, you may change
your mind after reading about these 2010 match-ups that are in
the works.
It appears that a match is all but set for March that will put
WBO light middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk (36-0, 22 KOs)
in the ring with interim WBO light middleweight title Alfredo
Angulo (17-1,14 KO’s) on HBO.
In April there’s an even bigger sizzler at middleweight that’s
ready to be announced by HBO, pitting WBC & WBO 160-pound champ
Kelly Pavlik (36-1,32 KO’s) against WBC Jr. Middle interim title
holder Sergio Martinez (44-2-2,24 KO’s).

Promotions Set The Record Straight |
|
After a Christmas weekend filled with comments
and reports related to the potential mega-fight between Floyd
Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, Mayweather Promotions and Golden
Boy Promotions are issuing the following statement in order to
set the record straight.
Let the record be clear: Manny Pacquiao and his promoter Bob
Arum are threatening to walk away from the largest fight in
history.
The fact is that random blood and urine testing was one of the
many deal points and was listed along with the others, such as
the financial split, the weight, financial penalty for being
overweight, the appointment of the foreign sales agent, the
production of the marketing assets, the gloves and many more.
Team Mayweather made major concessions in many of these areas
and we were optimistic that Team Pacquiao would do the same as
it related to the request for random blood and urine testing,
which Floyd Mayweather agreed to immediately.

first defence of his IBF Middleweight Title on January 30 when

returns to the Jahnsportforum in Neubrandenburg where he edged
Giovanni Lorenzo on September 19 to win King Arthur Abraham´s
vacated title in front of a sell-out crowd of 5,000 enthusiastic
fans. “I am looking forward to making my first defence,”
Sylvester said. “I expect a tough bout. Navascues is a strong
fighter but I will do my best to keep him at bay.”

|
O’Shea Bros. Boxing Promotions kicks-off its 2010
schedule January 15, featuring many of New York’s top young
fighters in action on the “New Year, New Stars” pro boxing card,
at the Yonkers PAL Gym.
“Our goal is to bring old-school boxing back to the fans,”
promoter Brian O’Shea explained. “We have some of the best young
local fighters on this card in real fights. We don’t want
protected fighters trying to build-up their records. Some guys
are stepping up in terms of the level of talent they’re in the
ring with and those just starting their pro careers are fighting
opponents of equal talent, from rival or even the same
neighborhoods in some cases, just like in the old days.”

Richie Boy’s Top Prospects Terry
& Rudd Close Out 2009 In Style |

Richie Boy Promotions’ top prospects, IBF No. 15
rated junior lightweight Ira Terry and 2008 Ringside World
Championships winner Chris Rudd, both closed out 2009 in style
with knockout victories.
The 22-year-old Terry (24-2, 14 KOs), fighting out of Memphis,
stopped Terrance “T-Brick” Roy in the sixth round of their Dec.
15th fight in Kentucky. Terry also is ranked No. 5 by the USBA.
Rudd (10-0, 7 KOs) was an outstanding U.S. amateur before
turning pro in 2007, rather than pursue a spot on the 2008 U.S.
Olympic Team. On Dec. 19 in his native Tennessee, 25-year-old
Rudd put Rodney Freeman to sleep in the second round to keep his
perfect professional record intact.

Mayweather/Pacquiao Update:
Arum Makes Final Offer |
|
According to the L.A. Times Bob Arum, Manny
Pacquiao's promoter, made his "final counteroffer" to get an
agreement between his boxer and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
"We will allow Golden Boy to present experts to the commission
to explain why additional testing is required, and we'll explain
our position," Arum said. "Then we'll let the Nevada commission
decide. If Nevada says we need to do more testing, we'll do
more, but if they don't, we won't."
Top Ranks Chief says give an answer by Monday or we lock up a
deal with Paulie Malignaggi.
"Nevada is the one who should have the say, not the fighters,"
Arum said.

On December 23rd Leonard Ellerbe, Floyd
Mayweather Jr.'s Head Flunky, said: "We've insisted on
this, (Olympic style drug testing), from the beginning.
We just want to make sure there is a level playing
field. There's no compromise on this issue."
Guess what Leonard?
We have a compromise in the works and according to
Golden Boy Chief Richard Schaefer they have agreed to
drop the Olympic style drug testing and go with urine
and blood testing as conducted by The Nevada State
Athletic Commission.

The final four months of the year were a fight lover’s fiesta.
Eight of our ten entrants feasted on opponents; four fought
mano-a-mano. Miguel Cotto (#9) lost to Pound4Pound king Manny
Pacquiao and dropped off the top 10 list. So too did #3 Joe
Calzaghe. Wish as I had for a Calzaghe come back it just didn’t
happen. Thus, we had room for two pugilists to crack the top 10.

stocking! After all the early chatter that Floyd

Christmas gift by announcing their fight was all but
good to go for March of 2010, we now are facing the
probability that the fight has been pulled out from
under the tree. And although Floyd Jr. is pretty much
responsible for the heinous crime you can go ahead and
insert any of the involved parties faces atop the
Grinch's green frame, Floyd Sr., "Hot Flashes" Ellerbe,
Golden Boy and by now I am okay if you slam Manny's
grill in there or anyone at Top Rank as well.

Bob Arum may be thinking about a March 13 bout with junior

Contradicting Schaefer? |

Interesting comments from Golden Boy CEO Richard
Schaefer back in 2008 when Zab Judah had asked for blood tests
from Shane Mosley prior to their proposed battle was set to take
place (the fight eventually was cancelled). Interesting enough
to be nearly the complete opposite of how he feels about Manny
Pacquiao's response to Floyd Mayweather's requested blood tests
which he said to be "disappointing".
Here is a direct quote from an espn article dated in 2008
regarding Judah asking for Mosley to take blood tests:

I have so many great memories from 2009. I am still following
professional boxing and enjoy watching the big fights when I
can. I was very pleased to be able to go to Las Vegas for Manny
Pacquiao’s great win over Miguel Cotto.
Watching from ringside, I was surprised that Pacquiao won so
well. I thought Cotto would be stronger. Manny has accuracy,
speed and hits hard! He throws lots of punches and did a great
job. I was impressed.

Foreman, Norton era of great Heavyweights in the 60’s
and 70’s.
1960, Tokyo, Japan:
Fighting Harada won a 10 round Decision
over Hiroyuki Ebihara in a non-title bout. Fighting Harada (55-7-0) would become Flyweight
Champion from 1962-63 and Bantamweight Champion from
1965-68 and be voted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in
1995.
1934, Paris, France:
Freddie Miller won a 10 round decision over
Panama Al Brown in a non title bout. Freddie Miller (208-28-7) World Featherweight
Champion from 1933-36 and Panama Al Brown (123-18-10)
Bantamweight Champion from 1929-35 were both voted into
Boxing’s Hall of Fame.
1901, Cardiff, Wales:
Jim Driscoll won a 10 round decision
over Joe Ross to win the Wales Featherweight Title. Welshman Jim Driscoll (52-3-6) like
Jimmy Wilde got his start fighting in the Boxing Booths
of the British Isles. Driscoll would become British
world Featherweight Champion from 1912-13, and be voted
into the Boxing Hall of Fame.

Top Rank Statement On Mayweather vs. Pacquiao |

To bleed, or not to bleed -- is that really the
question?
“More like Team Mayweather doth protest too much, methinks,”
said Bob Arum, chairman of Top Rank, the promoter of
seven-division world champion Manny Pacquiao.
In response to the release sent out Tuesday by Mayweather
Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions which stated that
Mayweather vs. Pacquiao was “in jeopardy,” Arum had the
following to say:
“Let’s be very clear on the real issues we differ on. It’s not
about being tested. Manny is onboard with that since it’s such
a major concern of Floyd Mayweather, Jr. It’s about who does
the testing and the scheduling of the procedures. Manny will
submit to as many random urine tests requested. Regarding the
blood tests, he will subject himself to three tests; one given
in January during the week the fight is formally announced, one
thirty days from the fight, no later than February 13, and the
final one immediately following the fight, in Manny’s locker
room. The major issue related to the testing rests with which
independent agency will administer these tests. The United
States Anti Doping Agency (USADA) cannot do it because they will
not amend its procedures to accommodate the blood testing
schedule we have outlined. USADA, under its guidelines, would
have the right to administer random blood tests as many times as
they want up to weigh-in day and that is ludicrous.

Mayweather's publicist went out.
The headline read:
MAYWEATHER VS PACQUIAO IN JEOPARDY AS PACQUIAO REFUSES TO
COMPLY
WITH UNITED STATES ANTI DOPING DRUG TESTING PROCEDURES
Here's a newsflash for you Mayweather honks, Manny doesn't have
to comply with the Olympic style drug testing as outlined and
mandated by the United States Anti Doping Agency (USADA).
