The boxing world was sent into a tizzy Thursday afternoon as ESPN’s Mike Coppinger posted that according to his sources, Canelo Alvarez was going to take on RuPaul on boxings most important date of the year, that being Cinco De Mayo weekend in Las Vegas.
Let’s just say that anyone who is a true boxing fan was none too thrilled about the announcement. On the other hand, every so called “Influencer” or wannabe Social Media Star must have been slobbering all over themselves after reading the errant news.
Only a few hours later, Coppinger basically posted a retraction to the earlier news stating that sources, (not sure if they are the same sources that fed him the earlier bogus news), said Canelo has done an about face and has now signed a four-fight deal with everyone’s favorite Turkey, Alalshikh.
Whatever.
I realize in this day and age of Instant News, everyone wants to be the first to break the latest “Blockbuster” report, but often times it leaves them sitting behind their keyboard with egg all over their face.
On a positive note, let’s all just be glad that Cinco De Mayo won’t be ruined with that so called, “Novelty Bout”.
